Someone mentioned Ball x Pit. I gave it a try and wasn't really hooked. I heard a podcast give some tips about it and I'll probably give it another go.

Agreed. Most games - at least ones with realistic-looking worlds - I don't like when the brightness is all maxed out with Game Mode on my TV, makes it look fake. But Yotei doesn't go for realism; it's like a beautiful, moving painting. I crank up all the visual settings, to enjoy it in its' full visual glory.

I like the ball and pit part, but I could see the city builder part being annoying to me. In a rogue like I want my progression to be based on how I did in my run, not also how I do in some other part of the game where if I don't lay my buildings out optimally then my progression is slowed down making it feel more like a grind.

I have tried several times and just don't get sucked in. I am currently playing my 323rd play through of GTA V, LOL. I'd really like to get into Cyberpunk....

Anyone try ARC Raiders? It is reviewing extremely well for an extraction shooter, 87 on metacritic. I might give it a go this weekend.

Just finished re-doing Hades 2 story and ending after the new patch and it's such a big improvement. Chronos gets way more fleshed out as an antagonist in his interactions with Mel, there's actual buildup now to the final confrontation, and the bits they added to the final ending make it much more satisfying. I would have rated Hades 2 at 1.0 launch a 9/10, but now with a proper ending I think it goes to a 10/10

Damn, N7 Day with another disappointment this year. Not much shown other then one piece of concept art and a blog post from Mike Gamble saying the next Mass Effect is still in development. Maybe next year!

I’m super early (2 hours) into it, and it seems great.

Yeah I pushed through the beginning and am now kind of hooked haha. I'm a sucker for these fallout / skyrim time wasters

I finished Silksong last night. 53 hours and 92% completion. Playing through Hollow Knight again and then going right into Silksong was definitely the right call. Team Cherry did an amazing job on the sequel.

Spoiler free thoughts:
  • The visual and audio experience is top notch again. It's so easy to get sucked into the world when it looks so damn good and sounds amazing.
  • I feel like the soundtrack managed to outdo Hollow Knight. The scope and variety in the music is incredible, and the instrumentation was fantastic. You can tell the game had a much bigger budget and the music is one of the most obvious results of that.
  • Hornet controls so well that it's gonna be hard to go back to the relatively slow and tanky controls in Hollow Knight. I think the crests are a great answer to the charm dilemma of Hollow Knight and encouraged you to try different play styles.
  • The enemy and boss design is clearly a step up from Hollow Knight. They really push you to master the gameplay systems and the feeling of satisfaction from learning a boss' patterns and beating them is so good. (I should note that some bosses frustrated me in a bad way and I was just happy to be done with them)
  • The early game is way too difficult. They should have removed most sources of 2 mask damage in most of Act 1 and it would make the game far more approachable. As it stands it's brutally hard until you get more tools and some extra masks of health.
  • Shell Shards aren't a great currency. Since you can only regain use of exhausted tools at benches they really serve no purpose. Shards discourage the use of tools while exploring the world as you'll likely be burning through them when learning and trying bosses over and over. It punishes less skilled players.
  • Rosary farming is an unfortunately required part of the game right now. I think a way to fix that would be for bosses to drop rosaries (and shards!).
  • The non-linear progression of the game is awesome, but it lead some people to some truly terrible unintended pathing that they thought Team Cherry intended because of the aforementioned brutally hard early game.

I have and I am having a great time with it so far. The world is well made and beautiful.

If anyone enjoys a less hardcore more fun extraction shooter type, I would definitely recommend the game.

I'm still in Act 1 in Silksong and I enjoy it a lot. It's hard though. I mean, I played Hollow Knight, I knew what I was getting into ... but there's a fine line between challenging and frustrating. The whole Hunter's March area was pretty challenging for me, and now I've encountered a boss that felt manageable, only to come up with an ####### second phase lol. It's super rewarding if you put a boss down, but man, this game is a good reminder why the Hollow Knight series is about as close as I'll ever get to a Soulslike game.

Honestly, I think most souls games are easier than HK or Silksong because you can usually grind out some levels and make things easier. HK/Silksong is mostly about just getting better (of course you can get some upgrades but I think the biggest driver by a long shot is your improved skill).

That or an improved controller. When I was struggling with something in HK I just put down the steam deck / 8bitdo and fired the thing up on my desktop with an xBox controller, and it was like turning down the difficulty.

Immortals Fenyx Rising is free from Ubisoft for PC today. It was an enjoyable for me when I played it years ago, but I'm a sucker for open world games. Worth checking out for that price IMO.

That's actually a really good point. I'm mostly playing Silksong on my steamdeck but when I hit a wall my xBox controller usually gets me through really quickly.
