Conroy has to be given enough time to execute a plan. We haven't hit rock bottom yet. Brad left this team in a mess, and Conroy will clean it up.
I like the idea of trading with Detroit, Montreal, and Utah. I can't stand Utah's GM, though.

I'm hoping Anderssons dealt before Xmas. At worst before the Olympic break.
Any other trades I'm good for the trade deadline.
But at this rate I wouldn't be shocked if moves started before Thanksgiving.

Exactly. People keep denying it partly because the Flames had unexpectedly good results last year despite going into the season with a rookie goalie, only two proven top 4 NHL defensemen and roughly $15 million in cap space. The players forced the team to hold onto Andersson which was OK because he wasn't on an expiring contract and they weren't risking losing him for nothing.
Since then, they've done nothing to improve the roster and now they are getting maybe a little bit worse results than you'd expect, which is OK. We need a top 5 pick the next couple drafts to augment the already strong prospect pool we have due to making 18 picks the last two drafts, which includes 10 picks in the first 3 rounds of those drafts.
Not only will they likely get a couple top 5 picks the next two drafts, but they should also be able to add a few more 1sts, 2nds, and 3rds in those drafts.
By the time the new arena opens, we should many of these prospects spilling onto the roster and the team will hopefully be on the upswing much like we are seeing this season from teams like San Jose, Anaheim, Chicago and Utah.

The Rangers signed goaltender Spencer Martin today. He has been playing in Russia this season, so has to go through waivers. I wonder if the Oilers claim him, LOL.

I just saw a tweet from an Oilers fan saying the Rangers look like they're going to start rebuilding and they should trade for Shesterkin. They completely ignore the salary cap or expect teams to retain.

They'd have to move either McDavid or Nurse or Draisaitl with no cap retention to get Shesty.
Oilers have hung themselves. There's no way out of their issues without cutting an artery

I’ve heard Craig is safe.
Haven’t heard the same for the coaches though.
Not that I think they’re going anywhere, after all Huska is Craig’s guy and just signed that awesome extension.
But I do wonder if utilization and compete comes into question, guys just don’t seem to be as motivated as they were last year.
Coming to the rink is more of a chore than anything thus far.

I mean, why not?

re: Andersson, why not wait until after the Olympics? Sweden will be in the thick of things and the possibility of more eyes and great plays will be a positive thing for a better return. I'm not saying you definitely do that, if you get you set price you do a deal now, but I don't necessarily see the harm in waiting considering we waited this time anyway.
He's not going to sabotage his play given he's a FA and will get less if his play drops off.

Kind of a lame argument.
Nearly half the roster that Treliving left behind is gone. Conroy’s had his hands on the wheel for over two years and he was the AGM under Treliving. Surely he had input on drafted players.
Blaming the previous guy doesn’t mean a whole lot.

I have wondered if they have begun to question the assistant coaches and if they are getting the job done.

Just an offhand observation:
The Eastern Conference is absolutely crazy right now. For instance, the Leafs are in 15th place in the conference, with 17 points. Yet they're just two points back of Philly for a wildcard spot, three points back of Ottawa for a divisional spot, and five points back of Ottawa for first place in the Atlantic. No less than nine teams in the East have points percentages between .530 and .600.
Until they start getting some separation, I don't think anybody in the East is going to be very keen on either buying or selling. I imagine it's liable to be at least another month before we start seeing any significant trade action involving Eastern teams; and probably not until after the Christmas break.

True. Especially when it comes to rentals (Andersson). A Kadri trade I could see earlier because a 2026 first round pick could easily have heavy protection (eg.top 12 protection) and the player is signed long term (i.e. the acquiring team doesn’t have to only weigh the costs/benefits of a single season). I don’t think Conroy would worry too much about including protection on the 2026 first round pick since, worst case scenario, the pick turns into an unprotected first in 2027 and the flames would probably value that as much if not more than a pick in 2026… especially since they could likely get a 2026 first round pick in an Andersson trade at the deadline.

Yeah. That’s kinda the point.
This is Conroy’s team. Continuing to blame Treliving’s is a lame argument/excuse.
Frankly, I think what Treliving left behind, as much if as mess as it was (likely ownership’s fault btw, but that’s a whole other discussion) was a pretty enviable one for a new GM.
The table was set for Conroy to cash in on a boat load of assets and take the team in a new direction. He took the wheel as the team was just entering a downturn. That’s a pretty sweet spot for a GM to enter the picture. A whole lot better than the opposite where you have a team expected to win yesterday.
