I wonder if Paramount could hire Seth McFarlane to do an Orvil that's actually in the Trek universe?

I've noodled that a few times but I'm not sure he'd be game for it, he could certainly do it, and I'm also not sure the Jaws-of-Life could crack Paramount's wallet open enough to make it happen.

You can have as many as you need. It's why you have more than one type of story you can tell. You can even tell stories about conflicts, but not every story should under the back drop of a conflict. Not every story should be about life or death consequences. At some point after the end of Enterprise, the writers for Star Trek threw out every other tool that they had in the universe except for the phaser. It's what made Lower Decks so good.
I do think showing that the Federation isn't perfect is important, but I also think there needs to be better writing than "Well, see, this guy is evil"

They should make a whole show about Starfleet Admiralty.
Just all these crappy old ass holes being despicable and sending people off to die due to sheer incompetence and apathy.
"Send the Titan in to defend the outpost!"
- "They'll be slaughtered for sure!"
"Yep. I'm tired of Riker."

I mean, the Orville is Star Trek, just without the name. I doubt MacFarlane could turn off the humour and Lower Decks proved you don't have to. If MacFarlane wanted to keep making the Orville he could have.

Whatever Kurtzman touches is awful. At some point his leverage has to run out, or whomever he is blackmailing will die of old age.
I've only dabbled in anything past the Kelvinverse, and I (was) a huge Trek fan. Other than catching up on Lower Decks, I'm not sure if I've really missed anything.

Strange New Worlds is worth your time.
Otherwise, no. You have missed nothing, and I envy you for not having Discovery or Picard in your brain.

Picard season 3 is fine. They cut all of the chaff (except Raffi) and add some actual good new characters.

I agree, I thought Picard S3 was pretty damn terrific. They gave the TNG crew a proper farewell, which was really enjoyable. And Captain Shaw was a great new character that I would have liked to have seen more of.

I disagree, but that's ok. The full fan service season was a way to not have Picard's last appearance be abject garbage. I get that.
I still wouldn't recommend it to anyone as good Trek.

I liked Capt. Shaw as well. He was the adult in the room that treated Picard and gang like exactly as you’d expect in real life.

The rumors are too good to be true. They are allegedly going to just try to forget the whole jj kurtzman era never happened. That would be the best thing ever so I refuse to believe it until it is real.

After breathing new life into high-profile IP like the Spider-Man franchise and Dungeons & Dragons, Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley are looking to boldly go where no directors have gone before with a popular franchise. Sources tell Deadline that the duo are coming on to write, produce and are attached to direct a new original Star Trek film for Paramount. They will produce under their GoldDay banner.
|
As with every Star Trek film announcement in the last 10 years, I will believe it when I'm seated in the theatre to see it. I really liked their D&D movie tho.
