If we trade Kadri I could see the interest being there. However the player is Belarusian and we have unfortunately not been doing so well with sharangovich and solovyov... so doubt theres good feelings for our team from players of that nation right now.

I’d wager Prosvetov would be on the first jet back to Russia if he could, not that it’s CGY’s fault he’s awful, but he came here thinking he’d be making NHL backup money and then proceeded to poop the bed.
I’d be fine with the centre coming over if Kadri goes. Could end up being free pickup or a reclamation player to trade for assets. The winger I’m good

Well he’s still making his NHL money.

The forwards like to eat a lot?

I could actually see him wanting to come here. The opportunity is there, and he would need to beat Kirkland, Kerins, and Morton. Moreover, as the last place team in the league there's a decent chance that we trade a center or two by the end of the year. Another benefit is having the Wranglers in the same city, and the fact that Milstein has a bunch of clients on the Flames and Wranglers.

Prosvetov is signed to a 1-way contract, so technically he's still getting backup money. During the offseason he was saying he wanted to do anything could to play in the NHL, even if it required starting in the AHL. It could've been just lip service, but he sounded genuine.

PS: On an unrelated note waivers sound so much better in Russian. They call it "the rejects draft".

I have noticed that Russia is a country that doesn't really do tact.

I think the Flames will attract good young UFAs from college and from Europe. Heck, even Howard didn't want to sign in Tampa as he didn't see a path forward for him at the NHL level, but with the Oilers being so thin, he saw an opportunity there.

Calgary can make certain guarantees that most other teams can't, and that's playing time. I hope they find a couple of diamonds.

Not right now, though.

Our own prospects, that I value more than some strangers in a distant land, can't get NHL ice time. Surely the agents of these free assets will look at that.

Are these strangers better than Gridin, Kerins, Strongren, Bruz?

I am sure some people here wont like this, but who would say no to Lafreniere for Coronato?

At this point I would
Coronato has had a poor start, but looks more dangerous the last couple of games.
AF looks god-awful.

I would take a chance on him, but not for a big price. More like the deal Seattle made for Kakko last year.

yeah, but look at how Kreider is doing once leaving the blackhole of NYR...

There's only 1 year between them, and they play a similar style of game. RHS vs LHS, and honestly similar production per year + on draft.

Just seems like a potentially interesting opportunity to me. I don't think NYR will let him go for a kakko deal just yet.

I don't hate the idea of buying low on Lafreniere but Coronato is off the table. We do have the cap space to take on an undesirable contract like Alexis's. I think if we don't want a decade rebuild, we need Coronato to develop into a reliable goalscorer

There have been a number of disappointing starts to the season but I would say Coronato is right up there with Sharangovich

Looking to acquire Lafreniere is an idea worth pursuing, at the right price.

Moving Coronato while his stock is low is not a good idea.

I prefer Coronato for the sole fact he is the only guy on our team who knows we cannot score if we don't shoot a shot.

I would put Zary in a deal for Laf but want to hold onto Coronato

Coronato does two things for Calgary that Lafreniere would not: Give the Flames a legit RHS threat, and he helps with team speed.

Zary as part of the trade for Lafreniere - as Vinny posted - would make a lot more sense to me. Still a bit of a gamble considering Lafreniere's deal - I think he is 2 million overpaid. However, both teams are struggling to score, and as Calgary accumulates talent, both Coronato and Lafreniere should see their goal production increase as better playmakers are added to the team.

With all due respect as a former Flame, I do think that Chris Drury is one of the league's worst GMs, so I like the idea of trading with him.

I wonder if a Zary & Coleman/Farabee package would work?

I think the time to sell on Zary was a year ago, injuries and his play the last 40 games, probably has dampened any interest that was out there. I'd hate for him to find his flair again on another team and become a steady 60-80 pts guy, after we sell low on him. I still think that's his ceiling.

Selling Matty now would also be selling low. I still believe he is a 30-40 goal scorer in this league, and unlike Yegor, he can play a complete 200 foot game.

Zary and Matty are both better players than they appear right now. I don't think their slump or lack of finish is due to lack of skill. There is something else going on.

I'd rather see Huska fired and a new coach brought in who can untap their potential. Then if you still want to trade them, do it at peak value.

Farabee, if he can sustain his point production might be tradable. If so, and assuming the Flames do want to keep him (I don't think they do), that is good asset management; turning a cap dump from Philly into an asset.
