Not at all, my family came to Canada in the 50's and 70's and started out doing hard work, low skill labour and built a life. I am not saying people should not come but we need to have a conversation about our immigration strategy.

Canada has been bringing in huge volumes immigration for many years now. The vast majority of them are good people but we are bringing people over to do a lot of the low skill, low wage jobs.

We do a poor job of integration with foreign credentials, work on that as a country to integrate them very well.

We are bringing over a lot of people to work at places that are also abusive and traffic in exploitation as well. You can pull that game at Tim Hortons but can't pull that in the medical field.. Nobody is getting away with paying RN's or Dr's 50% off with a kickback to management.

In a hypothetical scenario where you were going to immigrate to another high income, modern country like Switzerland, the EU, Japan, Hong Kong, Singnapore etc. What level of immigration would they allow legally without much skills? Without language? Do you really think Japan would have a lot of Canadian's living in hotels because a lack of housing and opportunities? Do you think Norway would import Canadian energy engineers and then NOT ALLOW them to work in the field, making them drive UBER or clean Air B & B's?

Foodbank Canada suggests that poor government support is resulting in a lot of newcomers using the food banks. https://foodbankscanada.ca/food-bank...circumstances/

Canada just can't bring people over under these work permit programs, have them struggle to find housing due to income/employment/supply. Have some of these exploitative scenarios, force them to jump from different work program to program and other hoops. A lot of newcomers then are struggling and Canadian's put their hands up and pretend like they don't have anything to do with this. We are the ones who brought them here!!

Canadian's shouldn't kid themselves, there is a LOT of trafficking and exploitation that is happening with Canada's loose immigration policies over the last little while. Who is benefiting from this overall? Is this what these people signed up for?

If people took out the bias and stopped worrying pointing the fingers about racism or being called racist, you can see that this hasn't been a good period overall for the level of immigration we had. It's ok to take a little breather for a while, something that the Carney government looks to be doing significantly. There is zero need to overextend ourselves. We should be integrating immigrants into Canada well, making sure employment, housing, social services are available, making sure exploitation is kept to a minimum. We should have an immigration strategy, not just flood the country and put them into hotels or have them jump from program to program to program applying for work. The goal is to be compassionate and have a Canadian culture, not work hard to fuel corporate interest with regards to cheap labour and finding clients for big business. On earnings call you see headlines like this and wonder, what the hell is going on? Is this why we are bringing people over, to boost stock prices?

https://calgaryherald.com/business/t...riber-slowdown
I brought up the current CPC are unlikely to elect a minority leader due to racism in their base.

And I also agree with most of what you've posted about immigration policy in Canada.

The thing with bigotry, is it takes a little truth, extrapolates it a whole lot, applies it to everyone in certain groups, scapegoats that group for anything people are unhappy about and you get the ingredients that form racism/bigotry/discrimination.

So it's not about "worrying about looking racist"; it's the reality that legitimate concerns about immigration policy are being used to justify racism.
The CPC and it's base are doing nothing but buying into that, spreading it and adding fuel to the fire.
If they want rational conversations about immigration policy without the racism, then have rational conversations about immigration policy without the racism.

Congratulations, dumbasses. You win the prize of death, pain and suffering for children. Really brilliant work. Be proud.

FFS, can we eliminate this kind of Trumpian press release from making its way up here? Nobody wants it.

LOL. My favourite part of the story is that Scheer and the party whip caught wind of Chris considering options, busted into his office knocking his assistant out of the way and yelled at him until he decided, "ya, no #### these guys. I wasn't sure, but that was the sign I didn't want to be anywhere near these raging nutjobs."(possibly paraphrased)

That press release is just oozing salt. So funny. Just a bunch of sad little people.

God, this measles thing is just so incredibly dumb and easily preventable. What an absolutely embarrassing black mark on our country.

Look on the bright side, we were the longest holdout of the G7 nations to maintain measles elimination status!

... yeah, that didn't really make it much better.

Apparently, the four projects to be named tomorrow in Prince Rupert will be an LNG facility, hydro north of Iqaluit, a Cobalt mine in Ontario and a mine in New Brunswick.

I’m waiting for Danielle Smith to lose her mind that there is no pipeline. (Assuming that’s accurate)

The Ksi Lisims LNG, which is supposedly being announced on Thursday, is going to need a pipeline from NEBC. The facility is going to be kinda pointless without NG delivery. There already has been a pipeline approved but that was 10 years.

Sure, but we all know she wants an oil pipeline. Her words implied that if they didn’t get one, Canada doesn’t work.

This is a direct result of conservatives and their supporters making vaccinations an issue.

Canada hates him.
His old riding hates him.
His own party hates him.

So your family came here 50 to 70 years ago and have now established themselves but the immigrants of today dont get that same grace?

I agree that immigration needs reform but it will also have success stories like the one written by your family.

He said no matter how divisive things seemed, a lot of these people were still very friendly with each other off camera and away from the HoC, including higher ranking members of all parties both elected and staff. Except when it came to Pollievre. The general disdain that people appeared to have when speaking about or to him was real. He is not liked and despite being in Parliament for so long has next to no friends, even in his own party. No one defends him, no one makes excuses for him, they just plain don't like him.

Well that's good. His party can decide in January and ride into mediocrity.

O'Toole got booted for far less, but I feel the party is mainly continuing to want to shift even further right. What worked with a deeply unpopular Trudeau government at the helm isn't going to work now.
