nvestigators say Goslin, who worked as a youth group leader in several religious organizations, was found to be involved with a platform used to livestream child sexual abuse sessions with material produced by child sex traffickers in the Philippines. “Sadly, when I heard about this story, my very first reaction was, oh no, not another youth pastor. I have actually literally lost count of how many times it’s been a youth pastor,” said Jessica Nicely, CEO and founder of Winged Hope Family Foundation.

The most dangerous place for a child...indoctrination camp. Is it time to ban them?

Unfortunately any time youth are with an adult there is risk. I don't think the answer is banning youth organizations (religious or otherwise) but requiring safety measures. E.g. Scouts Canada implemented '2-deep' requirements, there must always be at least 2 leaders in sight of each other when with youth, along with criminal record checks with vulnerable sector scans, and training to recognize signs that something inappropriate might be happening. It can't provide 100% protection from someone wilfully breaking the rules, I don't think anything really can, but greatly reduces risk.

But also not putting indoctrinated men with religious rules around pearl clutching sexuality that leads to them seeking an outlet for their needs in children. You know, simple changes.

sad truth is the people with these sort of sexual leanings (deviants?) gravitate to positions where they can work with kids (agreed it doesn't have to be a religious setting). Many church have something called plan to protect policy to reduce the risks...of course if policies aren't enforced the risk increases

Honestly, the parents are culpable, too. You're putting your kid in an indoctrination factory and telling them to listen to the authority of a strange, weird man who preaches fantasy and respect of power figures or face eternal damnation. Like...maybe don't do that to your child? My kids have a 0% chance of being abused/molested by a religious leader. Parents of children who go to church cannot say the same thing.

It's the church so I'm assuming the plan is to protect the pastors, not the kids.

Not "please report any uncomfortable interactions" just "if you choose to talk about it" which is basically an assumption that stuff happens, and it's up to a child to decide if they want to talk. Top notch stuff. And if you do, here, call our hotline so we can work to protect the offenders.

I don't think this should give parents any comfort. That this is even necessary should be a huge red flag.

The conversation regarding abuse within the church should begin and end with "call the police". It's absolutely insane somebody would go to the organization that has everything to gain and nothing to lose by minimizing and burying their own illegal activity. How dumb do you have to be to go to the church about abuse committed by the church? Nucking futs.

LOL I don't know about the catholic church, however yes that is concerning. I know someone at an Evangelical church where they have a plan to protect, assuming that would be normal at most big churches. I don't think that is something churches advertise having as a policy.

Having worked with sex offenders I saw a fair amount of research into religious abuse, the Catholics tended to be slightly different from run of the mill abusers, catholic pedophiles tended to gravitate to the church not to gain access to kids as much as because they were hoping the faith would help them to suppress their sexual leanings, the whole celibacy part of being a priest ironically was attractive to men struggling with their inappropriate sexual tendencies, of course once in a position of power it then led to vastly greater risk of abuse

The Boy Scouts of America filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in February 2020 to address thousands of sexual abuse claims, ultimately leading to a $2.46 billion settlement plan approved in September 2022.

Scouts Canada has no insurance to help pay for legal challenges related to incidents that took place between 1968 and 2002.

https://theijf.org/christian-charity-revoked-cra-letter

A faith-based Ontario organization lost its charitable status last month after an audit found evidence of false statements and personal benefits for its directors, according to a revocation letter released to the IJF.

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) revoked the registration of the#United Kingdom House of Worship Inc.#of Brampton, Ont., on Sept. 13. The charity was formed to promote the Christian faith, according to its filings with the CRA.

On top of all that, the letter says the charity’s treasurer, Godevar Cooper, has been designated#an ineligible individual#by the CRA because of her previous role as secretary of the Restoration Missionary Fellowship Inc., which had its charitable status#revoked in 2022.

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...use-rcna242402

The report last week identified nearly 200 ministers, church employees and volunteer leaders accused of sexually abusing more than 475 people, most of them children, over the past half-century. In dozens of cases, the investigation found, Assemblies of God churches returned accused offenders to ministry — freeing them to abuse again.

Other ministers criticized a 2021 decision by the General Council to reject a resolution that would have added language to the bylaws stating that a credentialed minister or church could be expelled or disciplined for failing to enforce safeguards like background checks and mandatory reporting of abuse. Ministers declined to adopt the policy after lawyers for the denomination warned that it could expose the General Council to costly lawsuits.

One senior official said at the time that the legal risk “outweighed the benefit.”

That remark brought to mind a passage from the Book of Matthew, said Scroggins, in which Jesus warned that a person cannot serve both God and mammon — or money.
“When your guiding thought is, ‘We don’t want to implement this policy that will protect children because we don’t want to lose a lot of money in potential lawsuits,’ that to me is, you’re worshipping money,” Scroggins said. “And that’s heartbreaking.”

Watch out for drag story time though.

Shocking that an organization who's goal is "the more brainwashed, the better" is also full of child predators.

Golly Martha, I'm just out here askin questions!

This thread doesn't say it's for a specific religion, nor does it state any system of belief can be excluded, so it's a very dumb question. But sure, start another thread if you want. No one cares.

LOL. Just a dead giveaway.

Post in this thread. That is quite literally exactly what it is for, as you can tell by the words in the title. If you read what they say, instead of the perceived persecution you imagine they say.

Don't we?

We have the politics threads which, if you think of political ideologies in the same way as religious ideologies, those count especially if you look at the threads involving the UCP.
What about the 'Tracking the anti-LGBTQ+ movement' thread, which is basically an ongoing catalogue of anti-trans beliefs translating to real-world action and negatively impacting society?

This is CalgaryPuck, we have all sorts of misery porn threads to choose from.
