A significant portion of the conservative base is in fact, racist. It’s a feature. Denying that with LOLs is denying reality.

If trolling is making yourself look dumb and no one take things you say seriously then, big win! We all know he absolutely cares however and the feelings get hurt when you push back. The limp dick one sentence or even one word replies speak to that

Why do Conservative politicians pander to their fringe base in this day and age?

Would they not be better off widening their POV to attract a larger progressive-conservative population?

Or is the grift just too easy and palpable with the base?

For example, there’s a significant social media campaign carried out by Maple MAGAt accounts referring to immigrants as “jeets” who are destroying Canada.

I think he's trying to paint a broad brush. No, not all Conservatives are racists, but many racists have found a receptive home with the Conservatives.

And no, you don't need to follow Russian bots to know this. Just listen to the callers on 770. "I'd like you to look at if our insurance rates are high because of all the immigrants" is a random one I heard a few months ago. I don't 100% recall, but I think this was a caller to Ask Our Premier.

Right, and accounts run by white Maple MAGATS front facing their platforms with on camera video commentary and podcasts are not “Russian bots.” LOL. Hilarious ignorance and silly denial.

But yeah, there certainly are lots of foreign ops anon bots and trolls as well.

You have to remember the usurping aspect of the party mergers. When the PCs and Reform merged parties they did not just have 2 politicians that were ready to represent the people in each riding, they had 2 support organizations. Volunteer bases, selection committees, etc.

The Reform party (and Wildrose) put a lot of work into ensuring that their people were the ones selecting the nominees, picking the winners and losers, and molding the party.

Provincially, the drama around TBA in Alberta is that they then moved in to usurp the Wildrose teams out of each riding so that the UCP is now not even Wildrose in a lot of places it is simply TBA. Then the TBA people ensured that TBA nominees became the UCP selection for the election.

At the Federal level, instead of an internal take over like TBA the story appears to be that there is foreign interference in the CPC that resulted in PP becoming the leader of the party.

While watching all of this take place it really makes me think that the weakness of Canada's democracy is not in the government or the elections, it is inside the parties themselves.

The Speaker of the House maintains order and decorum in the chamber

Maybe do a little more reading than that.

Isn’t it weird to have two people at the extreme opposite end of the political spectrum be so damn annoying?

I don't even know if its a grift. A lot of Conservative politicians are pretty right wing imo. This is stuff they believe. They identify with the fringe because they are part of it.
