Toffoli asked for a trade. And there was zero chance Markstrom was coming back to this situation, sure seems like he asked for a trade as well.

I don't think Markstrom asked for a trade. I do think that after all the talk of them shopping him around he got annoyed and knew what was coming so he just wanted it over with.

So in other words, he only wanted a trade because the team was already trying to trade him? But that never happens!

Howden and Lavoie are just fodder but Ihs-Wozniak+ 1st +2nd seems like a really good package for Rasmus at this point.
Edit: i had not seen that howden had 20 g last year. Maybe he could be a great coleman replacement in the mid term. I like this one.

Steinberg on the drive home seemed pretty adamant that the Flames would only trade Coleman and Kadri this season if they asked for a trade.
Which I think is even worse than Edwards blocking a trade.
Flames should be willing to listen to offers for every player on the roster except Parekh and Wolf and shouldn't take the player asking for a trade to facilitate a potential move.
Also really seemed to insinuate the team needs more time to make a decision and they want to see the team play under a softer schedule for a bit.
Which that's ridiculous too. You're not a contender. That's all that matters. Squeaking into the playoffs is irrelevant. You were given a free pass on this year with the horrendous start, lean into it.

I've liked Howden since junior, but I didn't know he had that kind of production either.
He's got size, physicality, and two-way acumen.

No one is arguing why he asked for a trade (except for you I guess).
Is there reason to believe the Flames will actively shop Kadri unless he asks for a trade is the question at hand. I don't think they will based on history and what has been reported. Not for at least another season and a half.
Curious if you think differently though.

Steinberg has been steadfast on this point for a while. And he doesn't portray it as speculation; he always adds that it is based on what he is hearing from the organization.

Are you pretending to not know why that would be relevant? The fact that Toffoli (and Markstrom) both asked for a trade after it was already clear the Flames had decided to move on from them is pretty relevant, and suggests they would have been moved regardless.
It’s funny that people always have some reason why every move the Flames make is somehow against their will.

It's a pretty big difference...he asked for a trade because the Flames didn't want to sign him to an extension. Their plan was to trade him not extend him obviously. Apparently they wouldn't even talk to his agent about a contract they were already working on trades.
You frame it like he forced their hand otherwise they would have kept him. Sorry Greedo, Flames shot first. Same with Zadorov and Markstom.

I want them to sell.
But to be fair what else are they supposed to do right now.
Its very early to sell, other teams might be holding tight for things to play out a bit more. And it doesn't make sense for them to say theyre open for business until the trade action picks up.
Ill be a bit more concerned if going into December the narrative hasn't started changing. Also he does say that Rasmus is almost certainly getting traded.

People put way too much stock into media hits. They probably are listening to offers but even with limited NTCs they could make a trade hard. Most of the teams that are interested in Kadri and Coleman probably see themselves as contenders and don’t need to add them in now.
Also, there really isn’t much benefit to the Flames announcing publicly that Kadri and Coleman are in play. I don’t think GMs care about the media but it is better to put out a scarcity message if they do

I think it's pretty obvious that Calgary had no interest in extending Zadorov, Markstrom and Toffoli. Markstrom because they had Wolf, the other two because they were not interested in what they knew the cost would be.
Lindholm and Hanifin they would have signed if the price was right. It wasn't. Andersson likely the same, but the price, especially the term, must be right. So far, I doubt they are close.

The Flames will, I’m sure, listen to all offers on Kadri and Coleman. But the thing is, they don’t need to trade them this season. There’s plenty of time to trade them. They can easily finish last and get a great pick with them on the team, then trade them next year and repeat the process. The only risk is a dip in production and to my eye Coleman is having a better year than last year (Kadri is the same)/

That's what it is like when people post about "freak outs" on reactions to objectively dumb/ bad news.
I mean, have you not seen a real "freak out?" No teachers here? Kids too old to remember what that actually looks like?
We have seen freak outs on here. This is not that.

And it will continue to happen.
It's a message board for fans. That suggests enjoyment, fun and hoping for the best once in a while.
So yeah if you look to spin everything negative you're going to get refuted. I hope not personally as that's over the line, but factually every time.
Buckle up!

Give me a break. The outrage is 100% justified.

I think you have to actually enjoy outrage to try and apply 20 years of history to a very unsecure comment attributed to an owner by a click bait merchant.
