Cool story time.
When I got to my bunk space overseas in Yugo there was two bags on the bed.
1 was a sandbag with 100 extra rounds.
1 was a garbage bag of hardcore Euro Porn mags
The dude I replaced was a great soldier.

My whole world has changed with a recent purchase. I've been laser-focused on making the best bed-side table situation the world has ever known tailored to my specific needs.
And it's just a $200 unit from Ikea, so not insanely expensive or anything. Just the perfect size for my room and I'm killing it on the customization.
Here's the table. The photos Ikea posted don't do it justice. It's bigger than it looks here, the drawer is soft close and the bottom cabinet fits a 4-litre jug of distilled water easily, which I need for my CPAP: https://www.ikea.com/ca/en/p/storemo...90924/#content
This sucker for classing up my Kleenex box game, but also three slots for my three bedside table staples: glasses, remote for the fan/light and remote for my Ghost bed: https://a.co/d/bZ6dnhV
Have this on top of the table. It's a placemat, but it's better than just a coaster for my morning coffee my wife brings me (don't have to target setting the cup down...just plop it wherever): https://a.co/d/3IMv9ky. You can also put pictures or kids artwork or whatever underneath. I thought I'd do that, but it's more minimalist to not clutter it up, so while I experimented with doing that, it's naked underneath right now.
Got this for clipping my sleep earbuds to the side of the table for easy access in the night: https://a.co/d/6CMLQb6
Ordered these (arriving today) for some cable management that will be behind the table: https://a.co/d/dYhJelN
In the drawer I have Advil, eyedrops, KOBO, and little thises and thats that are nice to have handy.
I spend a third of my life beside this table. The battle station is basically complete, but it's been fun setting up the ultimate nightstand. I highly recommend embarking on your own path of outfitting yourself with the perfect table situation for you. My wife has the same unit, but tailored to her crap.

I modified the nightstand I had built for my wife to hold her cpap. Keeps it contained, with air intake at the back and hose exit. Some rubber bumpers under the shelf to reduce vibrations. Totally silent.
Next up is a water dispenser for the 4L water jug because the cpap water container is so stupidly designed...I found the dispenser for boxed wine fits perfectly into the lid(drill it out). I had some new ones from my beer brewing times. So I want to build some way to tip the bottle, like those Texas mickey booze holders.
Also need something better to hang the mask from when not in use, currently a gate latch velcro'd to the headboard.
