Sure, but they also removed the emissions cap and that probably does make a lot of people on this board pretty happy?

Another interesting tidbit from the budget:
Quote:
|
“The government will also consider options for the privatization of airports,” the budget document said, after laying out preliminary ways the government plans to “unlock more of the economic potential of Canada’s airports and consider new ways to attract private sector investment.”

I imagine the funding boost for the CBC has probably sent him over the edge into complete meltdown mode. Someone might want to do a wellness check on him.

I'm not a big anti-CBC TV/Gem/Online News guy. Like the vast majority of Canadians, I never think about it, let alone use or watch it. Why are we still funding this ####? Radio, I can understand, but the rest of it?

Honestly, I believe in the value of having a National Broadcaster as I similarly believe in the value of having a National Postal Service, but the facts of the matter are that the CBC is crap.
Its not that fundamentally its a bad idea, I just find the end deliverable product to be essentially garbage.
Take the CBC and place what it offers next to the BBC or ABC. Its absolute crap.
I dont believe in defunding it or whatever nor am I interested in arguing whether or not its a biased mouthpiece for whatever Government happens to be sitting on the Hill, I just think that as a Nation we need to be getting more value for the money we sink into it.
It needs reform, not extinction.

Yeah, I can get behind that point. I would love to see resources poured into local news and have a strong national news-desk.

CBC News is top notch, and a huge deal these days as the bulk of our media is owned by Americans with right wing ties.
But the rest of CBC programming? Not for me

Seems like a lot of hype from Carney and kind of underwhelming. Not awful but not the ambitious plan that was hyped. Not much on tax changes and will be interesting to see if the private sector actually participates.
Crazy to me that the conservatives still haven’t kicked PP out as this is the kind of thing that could give them another chance at the win if they had a competent leader.
I do wish the Liberals adopted the Cons idea of tax breaks for investing profits into Canada.

At first read-through I am seriously underwhelmed in regards to the Tax effects of this budget.
They appear to have made very basic elements more complicated than they had to be...and they want CRA to do these for you?

Doesn’t the acceleration of depreciation of invested capital do exactly this is a very targeted way?

You've actually watched content from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation?

Absolutely! Their news segments and investigative journalism is actually really good!
For instance, I'm not a 'Rah! Rah! Monarchy!' Kind of guy, so I actually like getting a very different perspective and opinion on current events. And they also make very good documentaries!
The ABC is lightyears better than the CBC, not quite up to BBC, but still very good.
Hell...you want to watch top-notch Documentaries? PBS man. All of them put the swill the CBC trots out to absolute shame.

Also, and this has absolutely nothing to do with the current discussion regarding the CBC, BBC or ABC, but if you're having a bad day? Watch highlights of Australian Breakfast TV news.

Funny to mention "value for money" given that, per capita, Canada spends 1/3 of what the UK does for the BBC and 35% less than what ABC gets from the Australian government.
From this article: https://www.niemanlab.org/2022/01/do...ourse-they-do/
CBC's share of the budget per capita is relatively paltry.
