The curse of caring about something is you can't control the outcome.
Goddamn I'm grateful for the ride.

Ya I had no idea who these guys were a month ago. What an extremely likeable group.
How can you not feel terrible for them?
They were so very close. As close as you can get.

In hindsight I wonder if a double steal would have worked.
If you time it right there is no way they get barger at 2nd and Vlad at home I think...maybe you're sacrifing Barger there but you're probably tying the game at least.
Kirky just can't hit into that double play though...

Haven’t seen Sportsnet this dejected and salty since the last Oilers loss. Game’s over, be a pro.

I don't give a #### about Toronto

This.
After Barger last night they were playing it a bit safe to not get doubled up. Even if he's out at home you still have a guy at 3rd.
Plus if it's a deep line drive out him being on the bag makes a tag up easier to try to get hom
They need to get him home there though with bases loaded and 1 out, need to get a ball in the air

Random things as they come back to me, but if there wasn’t a screen out in left center field, covered in plastic, I think Varsho scales the padded wall that extra foot or two needed and catches that double by Smith.
You could tell he was looking at the wall to set up to climb the wall to reach it, but looks and it’s obviously plastic there.
Smith got to third and then home later that inning with the first run.
Then Pages and Hernandez in the 9th in the exact same spot. Brutal positioning by both and if Hernandez was a bit taller he likely knocks the ball out of Pages glove when they collided and the Jays win.

Sigh.
So many opportunities missed when runners needed to be moved over. So many times they had runners in scoring position with none out and couldn't get it done.
Fun team to watch. Hopefully they can keep most of the core together and take another run at the post season at some point.

Losing this game ####ing sucks. There is no way around it. As impossible as it seems, the memories of losing the game will eventually fade away and what will last are all of the memories that we had on the way getting here.
Just like the Flames did in 2003-04, we will remember this team as it was - a fantastic group of guys who came together and did amazing things and made an entire generation of new fans for the team.
It was a hell of a ride.

The part that makes me sad is they deserved to win.
They were the better team IMO but had some 50/50 moments go against them and a bit unlucky in some big moments.
I really hope this team gets another chance but honestly I'm a bit worried this was their chance.

Well that's an absolutely brutal way to lose.
Would have been easier if they just got swept or lost game seven 6-0 or something like that.
What a team though, and the good news is 90% of this team is under control for next season. Hopefully they can resign Bo, move him to 2B and also sign one frontline starting pitcher and they should be able to make some noise next season too.

I think you are correct.
Being a force play, I think running through would have been the right call. He would have kept his momentum moving forward just like running through first base is almost always the right decision rather than sliding. Sliding would have made sense if it wasn’t a force play to help avoid a tag but that was obviously not the case here.

At the end of the day base running gaffes probably cost them the WS.

Bo is a must sign, but I get a feeling he's going to chase the dough and someone is going to pay him a ton. Also in a year where the Jays did what they did, he's the one guy who can bring any team closer to the Jays approach. I'd be the Yanks are willing to give him Volpe's position.
I also think even though we were within inches to winning it all, it goes to show what an elite closer can bring. Hoffman was good this playoff run but he was drama leading up to this throughout the year. He'd be a great set up man, but I think a true closer will be needed.
Starting pitcher wise, we have a lot of #2s, but we need an Ace.
I truly don't think we're far from coming back. It really sucks that this team couldn't close it out, but it happens. It was a great run, and it distracted the whole country for a month. What a memorable thing for so many.

The disappointment we're feeling right now will eventually fade away where we're not thinking about it all the time. But the memory of losing this game won't ever go away. But neither will the good memories.

Yeah but then you have to time your step on the plate just perfectly too and as close to the edge as possible, which the runner has less control considering how fast your legs are moving and trying to adjust your stride.
With a slide you are making sure your foot is hitting the edge of the plate at the earliest possible moment.
That was literal inches away and closer than it should’ve been TBQH for the Dodgers. Infield is in to make that easy play and they almost flubbed it (as they almost did for the third out too).
But yes the ball needed to be hit to the outfield, not on the ground to second base.

For sure. I’ll never forget losing in game 7 of 2003-04 - it was brutal. When I think of 2003-04, the defining memories aren’t of that loss but everything else involved in the journey of getting there.
As a Jays fan, I can remember losing in the ALCS in 2015 but that doesn’t really dampen the memories of how freaking awesome it was to get here.

Or the runner on third needed to be 4ft off the bag instead of 3ft
