And honestly ground rule doubles are just a very routine part of baseball.

Only thing there, probably, if run scores and Barger on second then Jays will sacrifice him to 3rd. If everyone hits away it doesn't matterv

It definitely wasn't smart by Barger, but that was also a great play by Kike, and also by Rojas with a nice pick on the double off.

The what if is….
Straw scores
Barger on 2nd
Ernie bunts him to 3rd now with one out
So then does Giminez hit or do they bring in a pinch hitter and if so who? France?

The lodged ball, while weird had zero impact on the outcome. The correct call was made.
Even if the ball bounces off the wall, Barger still ends up at 2nd base with a double. The lead runner would have scored, but that run didn’t matter. Barger’s was the one that mattered.
Unfortunately Clement popped up and wasn’t able to advance the runners. Then the Giminez line drive to the wrong spot and the Barger base running mistake.
Still a gutpunch of a way to end. But the lodged ball is trivial

Barger knew. He said he saw him move in. He thought it would drop and he wanted to get to 3rd so that a fly ball would tie it.
It was a bang bang play. It's so easy to be critical from the sofa

I’d have gone with Davis Schneider personally.
The lodged ball call was the right one. It would be nice if the umps had discretion about where the lead runner would have ended up on those kind of plays but it would put them in a tough spot in a big situation like tonight.

I don’t get the “they would have bunted with a guy on 2nd if Straw scored “
Heck if that’s the plan just bunt with 2nd and 3rd . It’s not a force anyways .
I see zero chance the Jays are playing for a bunt and then sac fly to TIE the game at home .
If you execute perfectly you are just going to extras having used all your best relievers and going against Glasnow for the rest of the game ?
They were going for the win no matter what

It’s a fundamental baserunning mistake, plain and simple. There’s no sugar coating it.
The fact that it happens in the biggest game of the last 3 decades to end a rally and the game makes it harder.

Barger's a young guy. It was a mistake but truly we don't know if Springer would've cashed him in. I can accept the mistake because he did make a great hit prior to get there. I really hope he comes back fine. Game 7 is going to be really fun. I have a great feeling now that Yamamoto is out of the way. None of their starters are "healthy". It'll be a bullpen game. We're good.

It's a mistake but it's a bang bang play. And he had nust hit a ball off the wall in the 9th inning - his heart rate is about 130.
.y issue is that you were calling him stupid, which is ridiculous

What a dumb sport.
I could give a fata about the sport but went to buds place who loves baseball and kid plays high level. By the end screaming for the jays.
The ball is there in the wall, it barely impeded anything, honestly run yaa. Nope ground rule double. What? I don’t know the rules. It’s there, grab it and make a play. Nope this is baseball, where everything is dumb.
Why do they have jr high school mats on the walls for a trillion dollar business.
Joke sport. I was was all pumped where I was not just previously cause a ball is wedged but clearly accessible. Fata this sport.

Completely different, unless you think you can pull off the suicide squeeze.
They most likely would have bunted, had Straw scored. Try to tie the game in the 9th, then go from there.

So why not do the same thing with 2nd and 3rd?
A bad bunt the guy is out at 3rd the same way he would be out at home
