Default Senators 4 Flames 3 (SO)

Senators 4 Flames 3

- Flames blow 2-1 and 3-2 leads
- Senators win in a shoot out
- Cooley solid with his start
- Coronato scores to take some pressure off

Felt bad for Cooley in the shoot out. Tough way to end the night after a solid game.

This is sure an intriguing season. Good to see the vets scoring to ramp up the trade value. Not at all upset about the loss. So weird.

Record to get to 96 points remains at 105.

Current 8th place team on pace for 89 points, Flames need to be .600 and 14 games over .500 to get to 90.

It seems like every year, the pace is less than 96 points for the first half of the year, but then it always creeps up in the 2nd half. My guess is that there are more OT games in the 2nd half, as teams bear down more. But it's just a guess.

First NHL shootout has to be tough. IIRC Wolf lost his first one badly. But since then he's been good in them.

And more teams that will be good sputtering early. Then they find it.

Average for the last few years is just under 94 points.

And I don't think it's something that needs really sharp pencil, because as long as you're close, it comes down to winning a few games at the end. So I always feel like, if you're on pace for something in the 90s, you're in it. If you're on pace for 80 something, you're kidding yourself, unless you think your team is better than it has played so far.

The team stinks, but Cooley should be getting more time. He’s honestly looked better than Wolf - likely because he’s rested. They need to start playing him more, especially because heaping starts on Wolf isn’t helping them win.

I think you should do odd for winning McKenna instead

That seems correct to me. Regardless, this team needs to string together a bunch of wins if they want to have a hope come December.

Going off just pace, the eighth place team is on pace for ~96 right now. Edmonton (0.542 PT%) falls out of the top eight if you take Anaheim's (0.611 PT%) games in hand, leaving Los Angeles (0.583 PT%) as the lowest on pace playoff team with 96 points in the West.
