I'd love to keep Weegar. If he wants out though, I'd get it. Don't see Conny shopping him without a trade request.

If I am Conroy shortly after Kadri plays his 1000th game I would send an individual memo to each of the 18 teams the Flames are able to trade Kadri to and announce they are looking to move him between now and the trade deadline and if they don’t get what they want they will keep him moving forward. List pieces they want from each team and really try and get a bidding war started.

The vets were definitely sold on a “short retool” so I don’t blame any of them for wanting to get a chance to compete sooner than the Flames realistic timeline

It could be a rough year for Backs and Huby who may be the only members of last years ‘veteran six’ who remain after the deadline.
The Flames will be in a full blown tear it to the studs rebuild at thst point but between Andersson, Kadri, Coleman, and Weegar they could really stockpile assets and we as fans get the full Conroy/Iginla build of the Flames.

I think Weegar is unlikely to go. With a young D coming through the pipeline he's the perfect mentor and stabilizing force. (I realize he's had a tough start to the year)

I wouldn’t trade him but what if he requests a trade? He has a full NTC for 2 more years so not worth moving unless a huge offer comes from a team he wants to go to

I will say the bad contracts are accumulating with Bahl and Sharky. Weegar has never been a great skater and looks like he’s lost a step. His contract runs through the end of the decade. It may be one of those situations of selling before the milk spoils and the team has a handful of bad contracts on the books. I know how NHL GM’s think so I doubt Conny would consider moving him but I would.

If Weegar is on the decline, it would be in the team's interest to get out of that contract before they no longer can.
He still has an 'olympic caliber' reputation with a number of GMs at the moment, I suspect.

Is Bahl a bad contract? that's like 4/5 money and will be 5/6 money in the future.
I thought he's been pretty solid top 4 guy. Maybe our most reliable all season even.
Sharky though forsure. It felt pretty obvious he was going to regress after his 30g year considering he was shooting like %5 above his average.
I don't think he can be a consistent 20g guy, but he's always going to be a bit of a floater.

Taking a while to get to 5000

By the time the Flames want to add / are contending these contracts will either be gone or easier to move or get out from.
There's no concern to having them at this time. IMO.
Also, re: Sharangovich, I think by the time his deal has expired we'll see at least 1 maybe 2 seasons like had a few years back. His play is extremely streaky.

I suppose that depends on who the real Bahl is. The guy that last season looked like a decent 4/5 or the guy that so far this season looks like a 6/7.

Yeah I don't see Bahl as a bad contract at all and don't think he's looked like a 6/7 this year at all
Even Sharangovich is movable IMO

If this team had established top players that could be relied on to produce and Sharky was considered your 6th-9th best forward and a secondary part of your offense, people would have few issues with him at all because he does chip in now and then.
It's the fact that the roster has no top end that these middle 6 players get railed on so much for not being more than they are. it wouldn't happen if he was a third liner on a competitive team because he'd just be seen for what he is.
Consistent 30 goal scorers generally get paid much more than 5.75. He probably averages out at 15-20. He's overpaid, but not terribly. And if we had more of a 'motivator' type behind the bench, they'd probably pull more out of the guy. But we have a softy whose only move is to send them on popcorn duty. So the output is about what you'd expect.
At the end of the day, it's still a better contract than Frederic.

Actually this is kind of reminding me of Sharky's first year here. Extremely tentative start but I think he'll find his game. There is a player in there.

I see Elias Lindholm is out for several weeks in Boston. They are going to step back soon for sure. I’d be jumping on the Kadri deals this week

Yes, Montreal had the pick UNLESS The flames finished bottom 10. Something they probably had a chance of doing if they actively sold players like Rasmus Andersson or Nazem Kadri or Blake Coleman. (AARON G THESE ARE THE PLAYERS, THE SAME PLAYERS WE HAVE ALWAYS TALKED ABOUT).
They chose not to do that- reasons being that they wanted to "compete" and beleived in the roster.
Well, that belief didn't work out. Predictably. Now they are finally coming to terms (10 months too late) about where we are in the team building process to make a contender. And now we have lost a year of time for rebuilding, a year that will have impacts on Wolf's window.
|
How do you choose not to trade Kadri when he had a NMC and indicated that he did not want to be traded. We have gone over this many times and you somehow do not understand that you cannot trade somebody who refuses to be traded.

It was a bad contract the day it was announced. It was universally panned as one of the worst free agency contracts this summer after all. The hope was that he can improve on last season or at the very least maintain last season’s level of play. It’s early to declare that the contract is terrible and that may take a few seasons to declare. He needs to be better though.

I still can't get over the fact this team can't find players who have chemistry with Huberdeau. Florida seemed to have no trouble finding players that knew to glide into the zone with Huberdeau and keep their sticks in the right place. With every Flames forward, they seem to be totally unprepared for Huberdeau's passes.
Guys like Sharongovich should be perfect for this role, but they aren't.
