Anyone know how the Kraken were able to get Wright an exemption from the CHL?

Wright fell short of having enough completed CHL seasons to be eligible for the AHL by 1 game (a complete season defined by 25 games, and he had one season of 24 games). He also was extremely unlucky because he missed some games due to COVID and injury. The CHL agreed that being short one game to make him AHL eligible was unreasonable under the circumstances and granted an exemption.

9. Zayne Parekh
D, Calgary Flames
The future of the Flames' defense has arrived in the form of a right-handed, offensively brilliant, smooth-skating rearguard. Playing third-pairing minutes for the Flames, Parekh is easing his way into the NHL lineup while receiving reps on the second power-play unit. The expectation is that Parekh will quarterback the Flames' PP unit for years to come but allowing him to learn and get his feet under him is the right approach before thrusting him into that role.
He leads Calgary defensemen in shot attempts per 60 minutes, and shots on goal at even strength, while also having a positive possession share. Parekh has struggled in terms of tilting the ice, giving up more dangerous scoring chances than he creates. That development will come, as Parekh should be able to tilt the ice as he gets more experience. It may take a few years, but Parekh should comfortably become a point-producing defender who facilitates breakouts with ease and wins his matchups in a top-four role.

Zayne didn’t play tonight and currently sits at 9 games played. Since this is a lost season, I hope the plan is to send him back to junior to get stronger and focus on improving. This cup of coffee will have shown him where he needs to focus his energy in the CHL and at the World Juniors. It would also save a year of his ELC as an added bonus.
We need to tank. Full stop.

Nope. Put Parekh with a capable partner and give him 22 minutes a night. Let the mistakes and hate flow through him. This isn't 1994. Unleash this young man.

He has taken a few hits in his 9 games, i guess in the room they know how he is handling it. He is still maturing physically. I have no issues sending him back and keeping him away from this tire fire at the NHL level.

Still no Zayne in the lineup, sitting at 9 games played. I hope the plan is to get him more NHL practice time and a few more NHL paycheques before sending him down. He can develop physically and come back next year stronger.

This pretty much ends speculation that he will go back to junior. I mean technically he could, but if you're burning a year anyway now, it removes one of the benefits of doing so. The WJC might not be a bad idea though, at the very least to give him a break from the current losing atmosphere.
I think there are some valid positive reasons for sending him back, but I trust that the Flames know what they are doing.

I thought about it and I just don’t think saving a year is a good enough reason to send Parker down anyway. It looks cheap.

Wondering how it works for the Wolrd Juniors this year? Is it pretty much automatic that Parekh would be invited this time?
