If you would be able to handle a 15yr old vehicle, the Mark IV supra's will be available to import into canada as of next year. Those are very very rare, and still have a huge "wow" factor. If your budget is around $35K, you could probably get one imported for around $15 (possibly less), and spend the rest on upgrades. You can also import NSX's from japan now as well. They are legal.
If you want newish, 350z's, Porshe Cayman S (the hard top version of the boxter), Lotus Exige (about $75K new, not sure how much they would be used, probably more than your budget though). The Z BMW's are from what i hear, lacking in performance. You may also be able to pick up a BMW M3 for around 35K as well, probably a 02 or 03 model year.

With MB would should be able to get a 2005 or 06 C-Class. or a bit older say 03 E-Class.

I can vouch for lots of WOW factor there. And still fairly practical too.

My biggest concern for you and what you're trying to do are the type of ladies you're going to attract doing it. Be careful with the Porches, BMWs and Mercedes. You'd be better of going with a Lexus or Infiniti if you're trying to attract a sensible lass. One of the other kinds and you're just going to attract a lass who wants to spend your money.
As a side note, my cousin has a Solstice and they're very spanky.
One thing I would suggest though is that if you go with a british car, there is nothing as sexy as british racing green, in addition to it not being a common colour. Hot.

Mine may not be a 2005, but I drive an A4 and love it.
Audi's are definitely nice cars, really (and I understand you're planning on buying used) what makes a car have the wow factor, is a nice car with a slightly different paint color than you commonly see.

The S series of the Audi's will carry much more WOW power than the A lines. I did a quick look in the Autotrader - in Canada an 05/06 S4 is going to set you back just over $50K. In the US however, it will only set you back $35-$40K US. That will be right in your price range next year.

I read that Audi will be redesigned in Europe for 2009 and that design will follow to North America in 2010. If you own an '06, you'll lose a lot of your WOW factor when that happens.

Stay away from a boxter. Everytime I see one, I think one of two things. If it's a female driver, I think 'She didnt want a real sportscar', and if it is a male driver, I think 'He couldnt afford a real sports car'. Definately, the Boxster has NO WOW factor in my books.
Now, if you can get into a 911, that is a totally different story.

If the OP is interested that car is definitely within his price range in the United States. Possibly new if he gets the 250, used he'll be able to pick up a 350.

Personally, I dont think any of those really have a wow factor any more since there are a lot of them driving the roads of Calgary these days. They are great cars, but pretty saturated.
Spend your 40-50 grand on a classic from another era...much bigger wow factor.
|
Don't forget to budget another 10-20 grand for the inevitable repairs.

It is legal in Canada. my buddy at Tunerworks owns one. You can get them in Vancouver as low as $50k (used of course). I haven't seen one lower yet, so I'm guessing this car is out of AlbertGQ's price range.

Well, I should say I haven't seen one in Canada selling lower than $50k. I don't know about the imports from Japan.
EDIT: Upon looking at the Autotrader, I guess they are selling for around $35k. Not sure if that's because the JDMs are causing the price to drop. The last NSX I saw on sale at the lot was in Vancouver about a year ago going for $50k.
