Not to mention, kind of hilarious.

Embrace the tank!
I can definitely embrace it if they lose while putting in a good effort. It's easier to accept if your bad by design vs just being bad.

Another point to add for the pro tank crowd - if they maintain somewhere around this winning % throughout the season we'll be able to celebrate every win too!

Have you never actually spoken to a Toronto fan? lol. You have no idea what you’re talking about and this is a weird thing to make up.

They literally can’t enjoy anything because they expect the team to blow it. This isn’t a dynasty-in-their-lifetime fanbase like the Oilers.

They haven’t made the finals since 1967. They’ve been to but not through the second round once in the last 20 years, and in that time missed the playoffs entirely 10/11 years. That fan base literally has no reference point for success and “winning.”

Toronto fans and media are miserable lol. Maybe you’re confused because they love that team anyways and a lot of them love to hate it, whereas Calgary fans are mostly indifferent. But by no means do those fans ever expect to win.

Sounds like someone missed episode 1 and their treatment of that preseason blowout.

Agreed. I don’t mind that type of thing. Show the real stuff.
But finding the fluff in thin season is a tall order

If not for a few miscues, this could have been in the bag for Calgary.

TSN posted up a "Whimpering Wolf" screen up, comparing his stats this year vs last. TSN is really no good any longer.

Fantastic for Honzek to get his first goal of the season - great shot too. I thought that entire line is just working so well from game to game. I am on an island here, and I 100% know it, but Coleman is the only vet on this team I would want to extend. Valuable on and off the ice in showing the kids how to play the right way. I think he will bring value in a trade, but I also firmly believe he adds a lot of value to the organization overall too. I know it won't happen, and it is only a matter of time before Coleman moves on, and I am sure he would prefer it that way too, as he seems like a guy who wants to win.

I really hate losing to Toronto. Is there a more insufferable fan base that shows up at the Dome? Is there a worse fan base? A worse media overall?

As for Leafs - i see them as a team dangerously close to the cliff. I think they drop in the next few years. I would love to have a top 10 (or 15!) protected pick for Kadri - their 28th. I think the drop is coming, and Kadri by then will also be older and not in a position to keep that team afloat.

Marner leaving had nothing to do with Treliving. In fact, I was surprised when Treliving managed to wrangle something out of Vegas (though inconsequential). However, he also didn't do much to fix the situation either - losing a high-value asset for nothing really hurts an organization. Still, I can't blame Treliving for it - that was a Dubas issue that he had to deal with, but had his hands tied.

I can, however, criticize Treliving for, well, being Treliving. It is death by a thousand cuts again in Toronto. Carlo and Laughton acquisitions didn't move the needle nearly enough for their costs. Plus a mid-round pick here, a mid-round pick there, and the Leafs are a worse club on paper, with no hope of turning it around. I think they bottom-out in 2029 or 2030. It will be very interesting to see what Mathews does - Treliving might have to trade him out or risk losing him for nothing.

Just wish the Flames go the win tonight.

Tough sledding on Thursday. Sens have looked good lately, but just got blown-out tonight. I expect to see a very highly-motivated team on Thursday in front of their fans.

I predict Zary sits out Thursday. Coronato didn't have a good game, but Huska just sent him a message. Zary made some bad mistakes tonight, and took that bad penalty as well. That's my guess anyway.

It sucks seeing Weegar struggle because he really does GAF. He'll find his way back because he's too good not to.

Maybe we're listening to different shows, but even though I live in Toronto, the shows are all available and the same across Canada, and the majority of personalities and fans were talking about how they were going to replace the scoring the Leafs lost when Marner left and how Tre did nothing to replace it. They were guessing with Berube behind the bench, they'd likely see a change to a more grind it out kind of system given Marker's exit and how the Leafs might be on the down swing.

In fact, people out here are almost always, universally expecting the Leafs to lose, even in the most unlikely situations. It's very strange to witness happen in real time. A very damaged fanbase!

Slackin' for Gavin? More like latherin' for Gavin!

Only San Jose is threatening them right now in the lotterybowl.

Edit: looks like the Blues aren't so hot either..

7 Sportsnet analysts picked them to win the division (by far the most)
4 Sportsnet analysts picked them to represent the East in the cup final

On pace for 37 points and -111 goal differential.

Flames lose in regulation.

Honzo w/ his 1st NHL goal.

Trade bait Kadri/Andersson both pick up points.

Very good, onto the next.

Another game where the Flames should have got at least a point. Still an improvement over the 6-2 demolition in Toronto last season. The Flames haven’t gotten any better so I guess the Leafs are worse.

Can forgive Parekh on the goal but the giveaways from veterans on the other goals were diabolical.

Went to the game last night. Few thoughts:
- I’ve never been to a leaf game that was so empty and dull. The jays have definitely taken all the spirit of the city. Once the jays game started more than half the people were just watching that on their phone rather than the hockey game. Heck, we left early to catch the jays game at a nearby bar.

- Andersson is really really bad. They gotta get him out asap, I don’t see how he has 1rnd pick value in a trade, which sucks.

- kadri looked great

- coranato was off, right from his first shift

- wolf is awesome, easily flames only truly good player

- curious about parekh’s trajectory. It sucks he has to play in the nhl this year.

I agree with your post.

Especially the Coronato and Parekh parts.
