Default Keep your kids home for Education day?

To me it feels like keeping students home when classes are set to resume this week would send a really strong message to the teachers, the province and Canada. At this point what is another day anyway?

You hate to potentially weaponize the kids with this in any way (although that has already been done by our fearless leaders), but showing the UCP that we are not accepting their version of crumbling public education after apparently acting in their best interests by stripping away our rights and freedoms may be a significant show of disapproval the media would pick up.

Maybe I'm way off base here (happy to concede if so), but really trying to come up with more ways to not let this go quietly like the UCP would prefer. Any thoughts or ideas to improve this or get the word out as a citizens movement?

I have seen elsewhere the opinion that just keeping kids home doesn't really do much. Its sends an unclear message that can be lost or misinterpreted.

However an organized walkout could be quite effective if organized effectively.

Exactly. I would think if there was some sort of organized walkout for the day and gathering at a public space for media to see this could check boxes. I'm just not at all sure the best way to propose something like this and get word out there effectively to be of any use without leveraging the ATA or school board, which would obviously be a no-no.

It would have to be student organized. If you have high school aged kids that are engaged, get them to try and spread the word. If I got wind in high school that we were doing a full on sit-out until the teachers got their deal, I think we'd all be down, even if just to flex some power to get some days off. But they have to be old enough that their parents can't really force them to go.

Looks like this is happening tomorrow and more likely to be impactful. If you work downtown and want to show support spread this along. I will be posting in the other threads as well.

There is a student walkout planned for tomorrow. Got a letter from the school clarifying that it would be an unexcused absence and we would be notified.

I think a student lead jh and hs walk is way more effective a message. Unfortunately hard to include younger children in this. Also something to use judiciously

Should wait until the coward in chief is back in the province.

You can excuse your child for an Unavoidable circumstance as per the legislation.

I really appreciate an ernest desire for direct action. That’s amazing. IMO the most effective is whatever leads to a change in voter habits. If people can make time to talk with other parents and neighbors, educate them on the NWC and not make the uninformed moderates feel stupid it will be the most direct path to change.
