Good gamble imo. Hes already a stud dman, if he improves at all this will age really well. Would rather have him than Bouchard

I was going to compare him against Dobson but Bouchard is a good one too. I think Harley is better than either.

This definitely reinforces the speculation around the Stars salary cap issue. Even with the cap going up they have spent all of their money already. They are one of the few teams that you can weaponize salary cap against to get assets.

You can't really. If the Stars need to unload salary, there are at least a dozen teams that they could do business with. They'll pick whichever one charges the lowest price for the service.

This isn't a gamble at all in my opinion. He is already worth that and will only get better.

A 24 year old Team Canada d-man and a large cap increase incoming. 10+ was a no brainer. Good deal all around.

Like how they paid a 2nd to the Pens to get Dumba's $3.75M off their books.

I guess it is impressive that they did not pay a 1st?

Ah yes. The old Hubey special.

Aka too high for too long.

Ok length isnt as much of an issue here. But any 8 year contract comes with risk of a drop off.

Paying a second for $3.75 million is a considerably cheaper than paying the 16th overall pick for $6 million.

Kaprizov money for sure unless he possesses the McDoofus mentality of asking to be underpaid himself so scrubs can make more money.

Harley is top-end young defencemen. This may look like a bargain in just a couple of seasons.
