I still think if they would commit to utilizing the 4th line in a way that is more offensive it would fix a lot of the lineup issues.
They have 11 forwards that realistically could play top 9, but they have to shoe horn the roster in a way that doesn't make sense because they refuse to take Lomberg out of the lineup and that limits how we use the 4th line.

I like those lines but I think the coaches want Kirkland for PK. And because he's got a 62% FO.

To be fair while the 4th line generates basically nothing, it (and specifically Lomberg) have managed to avoid getting scored on.
With Kerins on the 4th line I see that basically being reversed as he is not good defensively. Though I’m not sure how much that line could realistically produce at that ice time anyway.

The solution as I see it is to trade Kadri and Coleman as soon as possible.

Yep. And other teams are very rarely willing to make those trades before U.S. Thanksgiving, because they want to know if they're really contending or just had a hot start.

They're the only ones that agreed to dog-sit for Huska on his date night with his wife. Instead of buying 'em a pizza he's giving them ice time.

Every coach has what I like to call a singing potato. He's a player who has very limited talent and skill, but will do everything the coach asks to the best of his ability. If other players want to know why they're getting their ice time cut, the coach points at the potato and says: ‘You're not doing the stuff he does. If he can do it, you certainly can.’
The best singing potato in the history of the Flames was probably Kevin Dahl, who got a roster spot for a couple of years because he was the first man willing to block shots when Dave King was coach. He was a lousy defenceman, but once he started blocking shots, everybody else started blocking them too, and team defence as a whole improved dramatically.
It seems to me Lomberg is Huska's singing potato – and a very useful one, because he has a Stanley Cup ring and his teammates respect that. Kirkland is another story – a useful PKer and faceoff guy who has to be used on a regular shift somewhere, so Huska sticks him on the fourth line where he will do minimal damage in other respects.

Yep. When you think the Flames are done they always flip the switch. Regardless, isn't first place in the lottery only 18.5% odds these days? The Flames are definitely not winning that even if they do tank and somehow end up in in the bottom 5 draft slots.

Nah, even Leafs with all their dysfunction are not as bad as the Rags.
If Flames win tonight that will be a lot more impressive IMO.
Great night for sports!

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that player development is a long term game. Fans seem to think that the coach's job is simply to throw kids out on the ice as much as possible, when it is, in fact, to help develop those kids and help them learn how to be a better player and a better pro.

Highly doubt its best for development to sit and then grind on the 4th line with Lomberg.
As someone else said I'd prefer they drop Lomberg and try to go a more offensive 4th line.

I did say that. Because to anyone who doesn't know what's going on, having that guy in the lineup makes the coach look as crazy as if he thought a potato could sing.
