Because Danielle was fired as a CBE trustee and is vindictive, and wants to deprive teachers of a month’s worth of salary as punishment for exercising a democratic right.

Tell me you haven't been in a public school lately without telling me you haven't been in a public school lately.

Dead last in education spending in Canada, and will still be dead last after this raise. The only educational funding area where Alberta is #1 is in private school funding from the public purse

What kind of crazy person would want the richest province in Canada to spend the most on educating our children...

Freedom of association and assembly are constitutional rights. If you want to point to anything unfair it’s the fact that kids requiring intensive supports are packed in an underfunded classroom, and this government doesn’t give a flying #### about them unless their parents can afford private.

I consider myself pretty centrist. If you had told me pre-UCP that I would support the NDP I would have laughed at you. Today after the UCP use of the notwithstanding clause I made a fairly material donation to the NDP, and I expect I will be volunteering to help them out in the next election.

Maybe you would have a point if this was normal back to work legislation, but it's not. (I'd still argue you on it, but whatever)

This is different because of the notwithstanding clause. That's a very important distinction that turns it from gross government overreach to a disgusting attack on labour rights.

Usually they get forced back to work under the old agreement while they continue to negotiate.

This is "#### you, the last deal you rejected is now in effect for 4 years and there's nothing you can do about it'

Anyone okay with that is a moron

I don’t disagree that teachers deserve some changes and likely higher wages. But the way that this has all come about is a joke. The attempted negotiations were a pathetic attempt at best.

It sadly is not about the kids or the teachers at this point.

You can't even call them negotiations. The government made one bad offer, refused to budge or negotiate further for weeks, then forced it through anyway

You're right about that on both fronts. It's too bad it's due to the Ultimate Crap Party.

Absolute travesty of a government. Disgusting and vile on all fronts. Just a reminder make sure to apply for that 30 bucks a day for you children. I just did mine and it’s pretty easy. For me half will go to the NDP (my first ever political donation) and the other half will go to my kids classroom for this supplies just to hopefully make things easier.

Me too; historically was a conservative voter, but couldn't vote for PCs or NDP in 2015 (so went Alberta Party). Been NDP since 2019 and will never, ever return to the conservative side unless they decide to govern in the same vein as Peter Lougheed again, which I doubt they ever will. Conservatives are so backwards and full of #### these days economically and socially, and its sad to see so many people fall for their corrupt, populist and exploitative messaging (and grift).

Voting by party color and doing anything you can to defend that party, even when your party has evolved into the equivalent of absolute scum, has to be the lamest and most embarrassing ####ing position ever. No spine whatsoever. Just cringeworthy.

What spade? What union negotiation do you think calls for the government to pass legislation that violates constitutional rights and freedoms.

The ATA made an offer before the strike which addressed class sizes and still would have had use at or near the bottom in public education funding. The government never countered or proposed an alternative, and wouldn't even go back to the table.

I’m guessing if they make it through the next couple weeks without significant backlash, they’re banking on people “forgetting” by election time 2027. Which is a fair approach in this damn province.
