Default Calgary swimming POO-l's

Calgary public health officials shut down two more outdoor pools Friday as concern deepened about fecal contamination.

I was told by a mother of 3 that infants who are not yet toilet trained need to wear freshly changed diapers into the pool. don't these things leak, especially if it is soaked thru?

Yeah, I just don't get that. I can understand taking your toddler to a wading pool, but why to a big pool? Just so your kid can contaminate the pool and turn it into Lake Springfield?

absolutely! I shouldn't have singled out infants, especially since they have no control. Non-hygenic adults are far worse!

One of my childhood traumas was seeing some old fart remove his colostomy bag prior to getting into the banff hot springs

I'd imagine it's still safe, as long as there's no old people there...

ya, babies are supposed to wear swim diapers.

I was a lifeguard for a couple years and was lucky enough to only have to fish poo out on one occation. it's funny actually:

- clear everyone out of the pool (but never tell them why)
- fish out the poo
- dump in a cup of bleach in the general vacinity of the recently vacated poo (which does nothing really)
- wait a few minutes
- let everyone back in!

there's so much chlorine in city pools that you could probably swim right by the poo with your mouth open and probably be ok. unless it's runny poo; completely different story (usually clear the pool for the day).

happy swimming!

Oh sweet jesus.

I'm having flashbacks now to the wave pool as a kid... snot and un-identifiables on the stairs to go up to the slides... wierd black stringy things in the main pool...
I didn't even think about POO in the mix. Especially RUNNY POO!

Yeah- it gave me a flashback as well. A few years ago I was swimming in the ocean and got stung by a jellyfish- paralizing my right leg. I was doing my best to swim to shore using just my arms, when right in my path was a floater. In excruciating pain and fear of drowning I still swam a wide circle around it.

I was at a city public pool with my kids 3 weeks ago. I won't name it, but it scored in the Herald survey as one of the cleanest ones. while we were there I guess there was a dump spotted in the pool. they made no real bones in annoucing what they had found, fished out the offending substance, bleached the heck out of the pool for 30 minutes and then everyone resumed swimming

good times

Speaking of diapers...where do you put your fruits and veggies in the cart when you go shopping?

Now think about where all the mom's locate their toddlers in the cart.

In diapers.

Ewww...

Great. Now I can't go to the pool; nor can I go shopping anymore. I suppose I'll have to find a different place to put my bread when I go shopping from now on.

LOL. We lived in Venezuela when I was a kid. The river we would go to every Sunday (there was a beach there) there were always "floaters". I spent most of my time out of the water.

Swimming pools freak me the hell out. Seriously, it's like swimming around in everyone else's filth. I much prefer swimming in lakes, rivers, oceans... I know they aren't completely clean either, but there's just something a little more comforting about more open water.

I haven't been to a public swimming pool in a few years, and after reading some of the replies, it'll be many more years before I even think about going to one
