And the number went up in the west only because Calgary and St. Louis both went on improbable winning streaks right at the same time.

Around 20 wins is more typical of the worst place team. Currently, the Flames are on pace for 16 wins.

I guess I'd take him too but wouldn't give up much. He makes 7.4 mill for this season and the next six. He's hit 20 goals once and 50 points once as well. Sure he's still a relatively young hockey player but the one goal two assists and -10 in ten games to start the season isn't great

2024-25: San Jose, 20-50-12
2023-24: San Jose, 19-54-9
2022-23: Anaheim, 23-47-12
2021-22: Montreal, 22-49-11
2020-21: Buffalo, 15-34-7 (prorates to 22 wins over 82 GP)
Just to provide some data. 20 wins is a touch low most years, but 30 is definitely too high.

Something like Lafrienerre for a 3rd might make sense. Eating a lot of salary for a guy who has never done anything so some significant risk but some potential upside.

If the Flames want to even say playoffs post November, then they really need to get onto a bit of a roll to even out things from this start. They end November with the annual (dreaded) Florida-Carolina trip. So, they really need to rattle off a bunch of wins starting soon.

30 wins is still usually good for a bottom five finish, so you weren't that far off.
Since the introduction of the shootout, the fewest wins the Flames have had in an 82 game season was 35 in both 2014 (4th worst) and 2016 (5th worst).

You know you are at the bottom of the table when almost every team in a month long list looks like a tough matchup.

all those teams have worse records than the Jets, Habs, Knights, Mammoth...which have been like 80% of the Flames Schedule

Yep, a franchise best win streak by a team from the 70s moved it up by a few points

Who is likely to sit tomorrow when Coronato is back in the line up? Every on e had a good game so it’s tough to say. I guess the easy answer is someone from the 4th line (either Lomberg or Kirkland)? If it’s Kirkland that likely means Zary is centering the 4th line. Which is not ideal. I would be fine with Zary centering with Klapka but I would want another skilled player on the other wing rather than Lomberg. Love the guy but Lomberg just doesn’t fit well as an offence option with Zary.
My preference for the line up after last game is probably this:
Huberdeau-Kadri-Frost
Sharangovich-Zary-Coronato
Honzek-Backlund-Coleman
Farabee-Kirkland-Klapka
They really do have a lot of wingers. Every time I think I have them all, I realize I have to fit Farabee and Sharangovich into the top 3 lines and there’s only room for one of them. I would also like to see Klapka playing further up the lineup.

It won't happen but ideally they'd take out Lomberg and Kirkland, Call up Kerins, and have more offensive threats on that 4th line.
Huberdeau - Kadri - Frost
Sharangovich - Zary - Coronato
Honzek - Backlund - Coleman
Farabee - Kerins - Klapka

I've been writing for a while on here that it seems to me that they have dug themselves a very deep hole - too deep in my view.
However, their schedule does lighten up and they have been doing better in the last few games.
It really depends on whether they string together a bunch of wins or go .500 over this stretch. If they go .500 over this stretch before the Florida trip then they are definitely a bottom team this year as the hole is too big afterwards in my opinion.

added the current win percentage for each of the opponents. Only 6 teams above .500. The Flames will not be .250 after this stretch.

Agreed. The team is playing better recently and dropping points at that level is also unsustainable.

My guess based on the first couple games and how the schedule looked was they could be 3-9-0 after their first 12 games and looks like they will be pretty close to that.
I do think they start playing closer to .500 now or maybe a little better here in this next stretch. The opponents are easier but there are some gotchas in there. 3 back to backs with travel, some teams that have had their number (Ottawa, STL) and the tough trio through the SE USA teams to end it.
Say something like 8-7-2 over the next 17 games (currently 2-7-1).
Which would leave them at 10-14-3 as of December 1 ... think that would probably have them pretty clearly out of the race at that point.
Based on the start I think they finish between 70 and 75 points here which will be that 4-7 range of the lottery I think.
