The unearned confidence of that franchise is impressive

lol. Jesus you guys are desperate for bulletin board material. Some rando on twitter has the gall to say the team with the best record in the league has a good chance to win the west final.
This is revelatory stuff here.
But they might not win. Brilliant insight. Choosing one of the only two available options for the outcome.
Riders could lose. Or they could win. Just like Quasimodo predicted.

I think the Riders are the pretenders out of the three. BC, Calgary and the Riders.
Right now to me the Lions are the scariest team in the West. Right now I'd put Calgary's defense against a immobile Trevor Harris.

Come on Cecil, you're better than this, it's more how dismissive he's being of both the Stamps and Lions. It's almost like they should save the airfare and not even bother to travel to Regina for the West Final.
Also, he's no rando, Jamie Nye hosts The Green Zone on 650 CKOM radio in Saskatoon.

If BC beats Calgary, they're going to the GC.
If Calgary beats BC, they're going to the GC.
Riders, are not going to the GC when they face the Lions or Stamps, Harris is just not mobile enough.

I looked at flights to Montreal for next weekend from Sydney, direct. 1400 dollars. Did we lose a war?

My daughter is travelling to Sydney (the one in Australia) next month and I think her airfare from Vancouver (direct flight) is not much more than $1400
In summary, flying within Canada is really expensive.

Yeah, flying from Vancouver to HK is $950, and flying from Calgary to Newfoundland is $795. Both direct flight. Go figure.

Lets take a quick look at the Riders versus Lions versus Stamps. Now this look doesn't include the last game of the season as the CFL is slow in updating stats
Quarterbacks
Passing yards
Rourke 4922 yards, a 69.7% completion rate, 28 TDs 15 int
Adams 3962 yards, a 64.9% completion rate, 21 TDs 14 int
Harris 4437 yards. a 73.2% completion rate 23 TDs 11 Int
* Adams started 16 games, Rourke 17 games, Harris 15 games.
From a pure passing perspective, Rourke is the man here, Harris is the more mistake free and accurate passing QB, Adams was the least accurate passer. Rourke though had 74 passes over 20 yards, Adams 78 and Harris 65. That tells us about the playbook in that Rourke and Adams are more willing to stretch the field, while Harris is more dink and dunk. Rourke is more deadly in the red zone pass with a 68.6% completion rate and 18 TDs, Harris is at 66.7% completion rate and 14 TDs and Adams is at 52.5% and has 12 red zone TDS.
However to accurately look at these three QB's, we really have to look at their threat levels.
On the ground
Rourke is terrifying as a duel threat with 559 yards a 9.3 YPC and 10 Touchdowns. Adams had 331 yards, 2 TDs and a 8.1 YPC
Harris isn't in the top 33 for rushing statistics.
What does this tell us?
Rourke is terrifying. He can really beat you a lot of different ways, on the ground and in the air. Adams is a credible duel threat QB. Harris is a pocket guy, but a dink and dunker a lot like Danny McManus. Because of this the Riders have less problems with Sacks, allowing 25, Calgary allowed 30 But BC was positively great at keeping Rourke on his feet through protection and his ability to take off with only 18 allowed.
Running Back production
All three teams have good running backs, Miles won the rushing crown this year. after 17 games he had 1340 yards and a 5.8 average and 11 touchdowns. Butler had 1185 yeards and a 5.4 ypc and 11 Tds. Oulette was a decent power back with 1163 yards and a 5.0 ypc and 8 TDS.
In terms of the overall rushing game Calgary was more rush heavy. They rushed the ball for 2172 yards, with a 5.6 ypc and 127 yards per game average. BC had 2004 yards with a 6.2 ypc and a 117 yards per game average. The Riders had 1744 yards, a 4.8 ypc and a 101 per game average.
Back to the pass
The Riders had 2 1000 yard receivers in Meyers and Johnson The Lions had 2 with Hatcher leading the league in a runaway with 1613 yards, and McInnis with 12. The Stamps because of injuries had no 1000 yard receivers.
But team stats wise, its probably a better picture.
BC led the league in overall passing yards with 5489 yards and a 71.8% completion. Sask had 4939 yards with 70.1% Completion, and the Stamps and 4429 yards and and a league worst 64.1 % completion rate.
Overall offense.
BC destroyed the rest of the league with 7362 yyards and a 433 yards per game average Sask had 6504 yards and 392 yards per game and the stamps had 6385 yards and a 375 per game average.
Conclusions.
BC wins the QB battle going away, Rourke can kill you with his arm and his feet. Harris is a pure passer, his game plan is more short pass predicated, but he won't beat you with this feat. Adams is a decent duel stat guy but he's was more inconsistent.
Right now, its Rourke as the best QB, I think Harris and Adams are a toss up, with Vernon being a little more dynamic. We beat the Riders with pressure on their QBs.
Tomorrow I think I'll look at the defenses.
But right now this points to if you let Rourke control the clock and the ball, it will be a murder. If you can take away the underneath against Harris and force him to wait for the deep stuff he'll be in trouble. If you take away the run game of the Stamps, there are good odds that forcing Adams to throw 30 times, mistakes will pop up.
I would absolutely look at the Lions as heavy favorites against the Stamps and Riders. I would absolutely think that the more balanced offense of the Stamps is an advantage over the Riders offense that depends on the short passing tree, and looks to be a bit predictable.
The game plan against the Lions.
You have to be willing to give up some big plays. You have to contain Rourke in the pocket and take away his two deep threat receivers. I would find a way to either play a zone with a double cover over under on Hatcher. But the best defense has to be to own the clock against the Lions.
The game plan against the Riders.
With the Riders, I'm sending pressure and playing an underneath tight zone to take away the short stuff. I'm running a lot of run blitz, inside pressure blitz to make Harris uncomfortable in the pocket. I want to see if I can force him away from the dink and dunk. The run blitz to A and B can take away a lot of Oulettes effectiveness as he's not as good as a toss/sweep runner.
The game plan against the Stamps.
Take away the run game which is tough, play contain on Adams and force him into a passing battle where he can tend to make mistakes. Play a Cover 1 cloud to take away the X and Y, while running a zone across the middle of the field, while using your safety to eyeball Adams.
Thoughts?

My wife just snagged us a couple of tickets for the West Semi-Final next weekend - The last time I was in BC Place for s Stamps game was the 2014 Grey Cup game. That turned out pretty good for the Red and White.

This is bang on Crunch! Personally I don't see any team beating BC this year, they are just too dynamic offensively. If Rourke gets injured early on a run then things change quickly.

The issue with BC and I'll put it out there tonight is their defense, mainly with their secondary, they do allow plays, but they do put tremendous pressure on the QB.
the Riders have a really good defense, their secondary comes across as strong.
the Stamps 4 game skid really hurt them, but otherwise, their defense this year has probably played the best rounded game.
Again, to beat BC it comes down to taking away the big play, containing the pocket and not letting Rourke escape and improvise.
Its going to sound weird, but Rourke is the Mahommes of the CFL in what he can do.

I think Calgary wins. No one chokes at home in the playoffs quite like BC. Not even Calgary.

Stamps had the most man games lost to injury this season...
Calgary Stampeders — 285 man games lost
The Stampeders didn’t lose many marquee players due to injury, save for Reggie Begelton and Folarin Orimolade, though they were the league’s least-healthy team overall. Malik Henry missed a second-straight season, while day-one starters Bryce Bell and Marquel Lee missed a combined 28 games. Adrian Greene, who was named All-West Division following a breakout year, missed five games, while Vernon Adams Jr. missed one.
