Maybe Sec214's GIF is a reference to weaponizing the cap space (finally).

I'd take Granlunds, not sure why it's a bad contract, 8 points in 7 games

I think it’s pretty clear by now that Craig’s not feeling the rush either.
He’s maximizing value and going to sell anyone as if they’re really okay with holding onto them to do so.
Teams are calling now because they think CGY is desperate and willing to panic, but I’m pretty confident Craig shares the same sentiment as most of us do.
With that said, it’s been very clear even going into this season that they have no star power, they couldn’t address that in UFA period this summer so now the focus is on the draft and maximizing their dart count.

That list makes very little sense. Many of those players do not have bad contracts and are on teams that are probably happy with the signing:
Mikael Granlund - Tied for the lead for points on the Ducks in their best season start in forever (they are actually in a playoff spot). They just signed him and have loads of cap space.
Brandon Montour - He might not be scoring goals but he is playing well for the Kraken (4 points and +3 in 4 games played) and the team is second in the division right now.
Chandler Stephenson - Looks like he is helping the Kraken win games right now and his $6.25M contract doesn't look like a problem.
Ivan Provorov - He just signed a new contract to maintain the D core of the CBJ and I don't see how this is earning a 'bad contract' status...
Cody Ceci - He is getting second pairing money to play a second pairing role. I don't see the Kings needing to move his brand new $4.5M contract because even as Clarke pushes for a bigger role, Doughty is declining.
Brady Skjei - Is he bad now? I thought he was one of the players still good on the Preds
Ryan Pulock - Aside from health issues over the last two seasons I am not sure the Islanders have any desire to move him.
Will Borgen - Again, for $4.1M is his contract a problem? His last two seasons have been pretty brutal with only 84 games played between them.
Tanner Jeannot - $3.4M is third line money... I do not believe moving him will change anything for the Bruins bad start.
Sean Couturier - Might be a cap dump... but he is tied with Zegras for the most points on the Flyers and they have plenty of cap space.
I don't really see any opportunity within that list to weaponize cap space. Dallas looks to be the team with the worst cap situation and none of their players are on the list. The Kraken probably want to move someone out but it is likely Grubauer, not Montour or Stephenson.

Kadri won't be traded before his 1000th game.
With Kadri's trade protection going to 13 team no trade list, teams are trying to figure out if they are on the list and if they are, what they need to do to convince Kadri to waive if Calgary decides to move him.

He's at 994 today. So 6 or 7 more games. Lol

By my count he’d play his 1000th game against Columbus in Calgary on the 5th of November and could be presented the silver stick on Friday the 7th in Calgary playing against Chicago. After that I’d imagine there’s a long line for Kadri’s services.

It’s weird there is so much focus on the 1000 games given how close it is.
It’s also encouraging that it seems there is a lot of interest

Between Ras and Naz, Conroy could be looking at his biggest returns yet.
All we’ve heard from the start of the season is teams are after centres…ah, this could be awesome.

I hope so too, but I was also excited about moving Ras and that fizzled out

Yes, it certainly is a terrible list.
Granlund in the first year of a three year deal and PPG?
Montour had 18 goals last year. He has 4 points in 4 games this year, and got back after the death of his brother.

Say the Flames start jettisoning Razz, Kadri and Coleman asap. The flames are going to have to bring in equal or more cap than they send out. So I don't necessarily know if there's going to be a ton of quality coming in.

Are there any really overpaid guys in the last year of their contract out there? If Calgary could get a guy with a big cap hit, and retain them and trade them again at the deadline even with one more year and do it next year.

At the moment, the Flames are about $13 million over the floor, so they can trade away any two of those players without bringing salary back. I could see a situation where they trade all three for futures, and make a separate trade to bring in a C or LHD making more money than his current team really wants to pay him – not exactly a cap dump, but a move from a team that wants to free up cap space for other purposes.
