Penn State picks up a 3-2 victory over the Stonehill Skyhawks led by the Whitehorse Wizard, who notches a goal and an assist, with his first home goal of the season.
On the year McKenna has 7GP 2G 6A 8PTS

I'm all about the players after McKenna. Even if the Flames finish last overall they still need to win the draft lottery and I just don't think that will happen as they have had zero lottery luck and the hockey gods either hate the Flames or love tormenting the fans and organization.

Odds are you lose the lottery to the aggregate when you’re dead last. I’m not particularly excited one way or the other until the balls are pulled. Or if the top two are clearly above the rest.

So tired of the zero lottery luck and the hockey gods hate the Flames.
Today we have a better chance at Gavin McKenna than any other team in the league, end of story.

yeah, knowing there'll be a Verhoeff, Stenberg, Roobroeck etc if we miss out on McKenna is reassuring.

I think it comes down to probability theory ...
If the Flames have 7 prospects with star potential of say 10% then there is a 54% chance of them becomes a star player. If the chance was 25% per player it moves to 87% that you get one star player.
That's the general theory. That the Flames have drafted well enough to have enough horses in the race to quite likely find their third star player in what they've already drafted.
Hopefully the 6 that don't become a star don't bust altogether and say two turn into Coronato support core players.
Wolf
Parekh
This year's 1st
Probability Boy
and you have four.

Which put him 5th in team scoring; Penn State and Michigan are basicaly scoring at will in the Big 10. Flames 3rd rounder from 2024 Henry Mews has seven helpers in eight games and sits 10th in scoring for the Wolverines.

We're in decent shape on the blueline already. We don't need to supplement it... more of a want than a need. We actually NEED top C. I'd be perfectly happy if we took Cs with all our picks this year (top 3-ish excepted) to hit big on one or two.

Ya but if Verhoeff is the BPA and he looks to be a stud #1 dman, you take him and deal with him, Parekh, Brz afterwards. Dont pass on Hedman for Duchene

Are Duchene and McKenna even comparable? Don't see it. At least use an apt comparable.
3 years into a rebuild and no elite forwards isn't great (unless someone like Gridin can become that). Verhoeff would be a good add but you can't win games entirely from the back end.
They'd have a lot of work to do up front in 2027.

I really do think he'd be pretty awesome with a shooter like Coronato and with a guy who has high end vision and motor like Reschny.
For what it's worth (which is absolutely nothing) I had the same feeling about Reschny going into last year's draft, and they ended up getting him, so I'm pretty sure they'll be drafting McKenna this year.

This is the kind of contribution this thread needs! (As opposed to the usual grumpy pessimism). Have some fun with it and imagine.
It may be a 1/5 chance but its still a realistically good shot
Similarly, I think Coronato needs a high end linenate with vision to help him reach the next level (30, even 40 goals). He isnt a catalyst but has the makings of a perfect trigger man for a player like this who could generate space for him feed him the puck.

I think scouts have been looking or watching McKenna for 2 years. I think it is at the point with so many viewing people might be looking for warts. The ncaa teams play a much better structured game compared to CHL teams. He will be above a point a game in the NCAA which is damn good considering he is draft eligible.

What? Yeah, no ####. My point was that you have guys on those teams with almost a PPG sitting back 10th in team scoring. That's all.

I might have misread and I don't want to speak for TBull, but I thought it was a comment more about prioritizing a center over a defenseman because we need centers more in the system than another defenseman. Right now, it looks like Verhoeff is the BPA over any centers according to most rankings, but of course that is subject to change.

Yeah me too. It's about time the hockey gods smiled on this organization so we don't have to keep talking about it. Until that happens it's going to continue to be a thing that's discussed amongst longtime fans that have not seen much good fortune come to this organization over the decades.
