Went to see the new Springsteen movie, Deliver Me From Nowhere. This isn't your typical rock biopic. Instead of the usual life story stuff, this one focuses on the two year period (1980-1982) during Springsteen's career where he was dealing with an increasing level of fame, while also struggling with depression, anxiety, and childhood trauma. All of this led to the writing and recording of his 1982 acoustic masterpiece Nebraska. Jeremy Allen White's performance is very good, and he does a great job capturing Springsteen's mannerisms and voice, both speaking and singing. He also kinda looks like a young Bruce and even holds and strums the guitar like him. It was uncanny.
Jeremy Strong is also excellent as Springsteen's longtime manager Jon Landau.
My god was Weapons the biggest pile of wet poo. I'm shocked that anyone found that movie even slightly engaging let alone enjoyable. Paced like a glacier while the plot and twists were worse than predictable they were pointless and dumb. Cool trailer though that certainly suckered me in like the chump I am.

Tis the season for a good horror, so I recommend a relatively new movie called DeadStream (2022)
A disgraced internet personality tries to win back his followers by livestreaming himself at an abandoned haunted house. When he accidentally unleashes a vengeful spirit, his comeback event becomes a fight for his life.
So, I would say it’s a mix between Evil dead 2 and cabin in the woods. Scary but fun.

Agreed. I was kind of enjoying it midway through, but I’ve already forgotten the entire plot..
Lately I have been trying to watch classic movies I have never seen before. This morning I chose Scarface. The movie came out when I was 12, so it really is right in the sweet spot of years where I became a film fan. I should have seen it by now, but here we are.
I don't think its a great movie! I am.not even sure its good. What it does have is fantastic performances by Pacino and Pfeiffer. Watching Pacino in this film for.2.5 hours is well worth it. However, I was expecting an intriguing story and a well designed, directed and paced production. I don't think it had any of that. So disappointed.
I won't 'not recommend ' it because Pacino's Tony Montana is a gift, but I also cannot recommend.....though I might be the last person on earth to see it so its a moot point!

Civil War (the A24 one) was ok, but definitely felt low budget. You have a movie taking place during a civil war in the most heavily armed country on Earth, but we only ever see a handful of soldiers shooting at each other and only token amounts of armor/air support, even in the final battle. And yea I get that the story wasn't about the war but about the people covering it, but in that case they would have probably been better served to set the story somewhere else. Just seems like they had a decent story about war journalists and some executive shoehorned in the USA setting as a way to pump the numbers
Well that's certainly a unique view on that movie.

I’ve always thought this movie was a mess, too.

It's not a good movie. It's overwrought and caricaturish. However, it's insanely quotable and memorable, so it has staying power.
In that vein...holy hell, I think I need to go rewatch Rashomon. Kurosawa is a genius.

Shelby Oaks, which centers around a woman that obsessively searches for her sister who vanished years earlier when her YouTube paranormal investigation team is gruesomely murdered by an unknown entity had a lot of creepy elements to it, but as a whole just wasn't satisfying.
They should have gone fully found footage with it (it begins that way kind of, then shifts to very standard fare). Had a lot of potential to be a loose spiritual successor to The Blair Witch Project, but instead becomes an entirely different and stereotypical movie 1/3 of the way in. Still fun, but forgettable.

Has Cineplex ever played ball with Netflix and their limited releases? Looks like the only option is to go alllllll the way up north to Landmark to see Frankenstein?
