Don’t we have enough of those guys? Reclaimation projects sitting in other teams press boxes.

Oh good, a left-shot winger. Just what the Flames need.

If you're gonna bring in a new reclamation project, you must ship an old one out.

I mean Hunt is the Wranglers leading scorer and he was ppg last season. If hes such a grinder why cant anyone outscore him?

Because they don’t have one in the system?
Hunt is a grinder based on his long NHL record
His AHL record is meaningless for him

Aside from Gridin, who they are keeping on the farm as a 19 year old, who are you calling up to provide more offence?

It’s more a dumpster fire know. Or a train wreck.
Baby steps.

Lots of hand-wringing and complaining over Hunt still? He isn't in the lineup tonight. This is just a nice pay-bump for him as a reward for being a solid vet down in the AHL. Good for him.

4th line was probably our best line though the last 2 games.

Don't think this one will be setting any viewership records on Sportsnet. Hoping for a good performance from the Flames, we'll see what the write-ups and highlights look like tomorrow after watching the Jays and Stamps tonight.

I'm not a big gambler but when I bet I always bet against the Flames. That way if they lose at least I win some money and if they win I'm a fan so I'm happy with that as well.
Been doing very well so far this year...

Real talk though.. I just want to see a roster half comprised of players under 25 so I can enjoy tracking their progress and the occasional exciting play or goal in spite of losing.
But lo and behold we're 2 years into an unofficial rebuild and I'm still watching a team icing less rookies than playoff teams and leaning heavily on its vets in key situations night after night.
Can we please see a tangible shift in the coming weeks now that reality is setting in?
I can't watch a "shoot for 8th" roster much longer. Mentally checking out pretty quickly here.

‘Tank’ was boxing slang already in the 1930s. Here is an example from a Damon Runyon short story published around that time. ‘Jonas’ is a deposed king from a small European country who is making a living as a boxer, and ‘Spider’ is his manager:
Quote:
But the matches Spider finally commences accepting are not the matches the promoters offer, because the promoters offer opponents who may have no respect for royalty, and may try to knock Jonas's brains out. The matches Spider accepts have his own personal supervision, and they are much better for Jonas than what the promoters might think up.
These matches are with sure-footed watermen, who plunge in swiftly and smoothly when Jonas waves at them, and while everybody knows these matches are strictly tank jobs, nobody cares, especially the customers who almost break down the doors of the clubs where Jonas appears, trying to get in. The customers are so greatly pleased to be permitted to observe an ex-king in short pants that they scarcely pause for their change at the box-office windows.
Of course Spider does not tell Jonas that these contests are dipsydoos and Jonas thinks he really is belting out these porter-houses, and as he is getting pretty nice money for the work, he feels very well, indeed. Anybody will tell you that it helps build up a young fighter's confidence to let him see a few people take naps in front of him as he is coming along, though Jonas is slightly bewildered the night at the Sun Casino when a generally very reliable waterboy by the name of Charley Drunckley misses his cue and falls down before Jonas can hit him.
|
From expressions like ‘watermen’ and phrases like ‘plunge in swiftly and smoothly’, it's clear that a ‘tank job’ is a fight where one fighter falls down as if he were diving into a water tank. The hockey and soccer term ‘dive’, meaning to fake an injury, evidently has the same origin.
Runyon was a famous sports reporter when he wasn't writing fiction, so he was familiar with all the slang in the business.
