Holy smokes it was a disaster voting this morning. I got there at 10:15am and just finished voting TWO HOURS later. I felt so bad for the election workers, they told me they were stunned at the turnout.
if it's going to take 2 hours tonight i'm not voting.

What do people think the advanced voting stations were for?
I mean, I get nobody wants another Sean Chu debacle, but still.
I was waiting to see how the mayor contest played out, but we never did get those last polls. Also, the Chu thing(he would have lost without advanced voting for sure). We were coming home from somewhere and decided to get it over with. I just assumed they'd be opened for awhile when we showed up around 10.
One issue is that the City is trying to create a log of school board preference as part of the voting register. So every single person voting for school board gets a form filled out that they have to sign. It just name and address and signature but it adds an extra few minutes to every vote.
It’s going to be bad.

Is that a Calgary city only initiative? They should already have a good idea of numbers based on property tax declaration. What is the purpose and use?

People who voted in the advance polls were saying they had a 30+ minute wait for that, so it's not like it was a huge time savings. Plus, there are limited locations where you can vote in advance, so that's more time to drive to the poll and back. Meanwhile, I can see the school where I voted today from my bedroom window.
I've lived here for 15 years, and most elections, it takes me longer to walk a couple blocks to the school and back than it does to get the ballots and vote.

No idea, my wife is working the election today and mentioned that that’s why it was so backed up.

For the last little while I always go at around 2pm if my workday allows it. Took me 5 minutes at St. Mary's today and I like how it breaks up the afternoon. Normally at 2pm im trying to fight a nap. I love voting the day of it's weirdly enjoyable for me.

Longer line than usual for municipal elections. The school trustee thing seems to backing things up. I declined that ballot because I don’t know anything about the candidates, and the worker actually thanked me.

Sure, but that’s different than people saying there should be multiple days of voting, as if advanced polls didn’t exist. Maybe this year could’ve been different because of the strike and the availability of the schools, but that was kind of unexpected. The advanced polling locations weren’t bad if you were running errands or whatever and had one nearby.

The advance voting location was way more convenient for me location-wise.
I've never voted on election day or at advanced voting in less than 30 minutes. Usually I plan to be there a good hour.
Pretty sure our polling station was slammed all day. Drove by at about 11:15 and there were ~20 people lined up out the door. At 2:30 it was more like 50 people. My wife went at about 3:15 and it took her over 90 minutes. She saw a few older people with walkers leave the line without voting. So glad I did advanced.
