My opinion:
Calgary Party: centre left
Communities First: right/UCP aligned bootlickers
A Better Calgary Party: extreme far right

I was going to head out to vote earlier, but then I saw that polls don't open until 10. That seems really late. Don't a lot of people usually go vote on their way to work?
I thought poll were usually open a full 12 hours -- either 7:30-7:30 or 8:00-8:00.

Yeah, only opening at 10 was a surprise. it's probably going to be a ####show after work...
Still not sure who to vote for Mayor. All the options feel so... lacklustre. Then again, that's been the case with the recent provincial/federal elections too.

The counting of ballots by hand...because ucp...is going to mean no real results on election day/night.
Vote counting will stop tonight at 1 AM and then resume at 1030 AM Tuesday.
Election officials are not allowed to use tabulators any more for counting votes.

Ric McIver, Alberta's municipal affairs minister at the time,#acknowledged#the government is reverting to hand-counted ballots not because any evidence suggests it's necessary, but because there is a minority of Albertans who don't trust tabulators (which, it should be noted, are different from electronic voting machines).
"I myself don’t feel that way," McIver told reporters in October 2024. "But the fact is I don’t want one out of three Albertans walking around feeling like they can disrespect their local municipal council because they think that they weren’t legitimately elected."

Ya, I thought they were open early. Just showed up thinking the rush would be done, but a good 15 minutes here so far, almost in the gym...

I'm Rick McIver and I make up numbers like 1/3rd, even after admitting there are no rational reasons to do this. Morons.

Yeah, I'm sure no one will disrespect the members of council after this.
Remember, there will likely be a really low turnout this year, so your one vote carries extra weight.

I don’t need polar opposite but I do want someone who can stand up to her. Gondek opposed her but I don’t think scored against her. Reluctantly thinking Farkas

For an election that nobody is supposed to care about, there was a bloody long line at the polling place.

Likely Brian Thiessen or Jyoti Gondek based on their values.
Thiessen has vocally opposed all of Smith's intrusions "If Danielle Smith wants to be the mayor of Calgary, she should quit her job and run for the mayor of Calgary".

Yeah, the Mayoral candidates define 'uninspiring.'
They seemed to have changed the voting procedures, it took a long time to get through and they're going to have to start getting some younger workers...the table where they take basic information and check your name and hand you ballots? They looked like they've seen too many winters.
Get some High School kids in there, they're not up to much at the moment. A large available labour pool.

Holy smokes it was a disaster voting this morning. I got there at 10:15am and just finished voting TWO HOURS later. I felt so bad for the election workers, they told me they were stunned at the turnout.

I think it would be much better to expand advance voting and do away with election day altogether. Rotate the advance station locations so you still end up with one day at each hyper-local polling station. I'd probably bump it to at least 8 days and do Wed-Sat and Mon-Thur

Yeah having a single day specified as vote day seems archaic and not reflective of today's society. Though, I guess you could say maybe there's a higher risk of inteference if you're going multi-day voting, but that should be alleviated with redundant capture and storage of votes and results.

There were five additional days earlier this month.
