The First Omen was pretty good. It's a prequel to the original and creepy as hell, especially Charles Dance and Bill Nighy.

I didn't like it. I don't recommend it.

I was wondering wtf happened, and then read that I was one of those people easily bamboozled. Peele was just a producer, and the Director / Script guy was some no-name.

So be warned - it's a bad pseudo thriller vaguely football related. Third act totally flops in it's attempt to pay off the building tension. There isn't really any football to be had in the film, it's more of a "young guy on a famous guy's compound filled with weirdos and occasional sadism".

It's also a very visually dark movie - so watch it at night if you ignore me and decide to take a run at it.
I'm obligated to see it because Jim Jefferies is a part of the cast.

I Like Me wasn't a stellar biographical documentary by any stretch, but it was nice to spend time with John Candy again.

I totally agree. Love peele. This is the only movie I’ve walked out of. No idea how it finishes and don’t care. Terrible movie and I can handle some bad stuff.

Have you seen When Evil Lurks from the same director?

It's super bleak but great.

Watched the entire series recently and went down the rabbit hole for a bit with it. The ending was kind of underwhelming, but overall pretty good series.

I'm a fan, but he plays it straight. So he's wasted.

The '85 Fright Night is so good.

Equal parts classic horror film and '80s 'this is 100% cool as ####' fun--and maybe my favourite vampire flick of all time (definitely in the top three.)

At the minimum, Chris Sarandon gives my favourite vampire performance. Cool, confident, sexy, and scary, he pulls it off convincingly with ease, and brings a ton of charisma and presence to the role. Add in some excellent performances and some really killer gore effects, and you have a classic.

Saw Roofman with Channing Tatum and Kirsten Dunst last night.

It had a lot more of an indie movie type feel to it, both in style of acting and production. I was pleasantly surprised by it, but it's much more of a drama than the trailers would indicate (it felt more comedic from the trailers). As I said to my wife as we left, "that's a rehash of Jean Valjean, only with a little less gravitas in the character."

Still, I thought it was worth a watch. There were some pretty genuine moments and Channing actually showed moments where he could act.

7/10

Good Fortune was not very interesting thematically or funny, unfortunately.

Had a great cast with potential that the script just didnt capitalize on. I thought it was going in a raunchy direction from the trailers but it played it safe instead. They should have taken it off the rails.

Reeves was very likable as always.

I saw Good Fortune today, too. I don't disagree with Trent, really, but I think I liked it a bit more. 6/10.

I know a lot of the effect is in the edit of the documentatry, but boy, some of those interview questions were pretty hurtful. "Hey, if you weren't so brutally fat, you could be a star"

It was no surprise to hear more about the demons he battled with, and I agree it was nice to spend some time with the clips, but some of those interviewers need a slap in the head.

It also made me dig out some of my SCTV DVD set and watch a few things. A lot of absolute gems in there, but an equal amount of turkeys. What I'd really like to see is the behind the scenes footage when they told the cast they were heading to Edmonton to shoot.

I really thought somebody, maybe Scorsese, was making an SCTV documentary.

Civil War (the A24 one) was ok, but definitely felt low budget. You have a movie taking place during a civil war in the most heavily armed country on Earth, but we only ever see a handful of soldiers shooting at each other and only token amounts of armor/air support, even in the final battle. And yea I get that the story wasn't about the war but about the people covering it, but in that case they would have probably been better served to set the story somewhere else. Just seems like they had a decent story about war journalists and some executive shoehorned in the USA setting as a way to pump the numbers
