Nothing has gotten better fundamentally, despite the reprieve of the ceasefire. It's tragic, and disheartening. This war was for absolutely no gain to anyone besides the war mongers pulling the strings on it all.
I can't escape the thought that a return to the pre-oct 7 status quo, except with a flattened Gaza and 60000 dead civilians, isn't really possible. We're going to keep seeing this tense back and forth until the international community loses interest, and then the slaughter will start back up again for real.

And THEY bring friends and they stop being cool and then you realize, oh, this is a Nazi bar now. And its too late because they’re entrenched and if you try to kick them out, they cause a PROBLEM. So you have to shut them down.

Some of the Palestinian prisoners Israel released were actually in prison for killing Muslims and Arabs that they saw as being to friendly or collaborative with Israel. Yahya Sinwar himself, who led Gazans into this war to begin with was known as The Butcher of Khan Younis killed many Gazan civilians and yet was very popular in Gaza. Just like how democratic ideals are instilled in the culture and identity of some societies, so is violence and retribution in others. That isn't going to change just because this war ends. You can literally go back centuries in that region, before the creation of the modern state of Israel, and see the same thing over and over.

Now the US is warning of an attack by Hamas against civilians in Gaza. Hopefully a false alarm.
That's all well and good of them but begs the question why there were no warnings from them when Israel was attacking and murdering the civilians of Gaza.
Deliberate murder of civilians is an act of terrorism regardless who is carrying it out. Wouldn't you agree?

Abu Foul was detained by the Israel Defence Forces on Dec. 27, 2024, at Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, where he was receiving treatment for his amputated leg after losing it in an Israeli airstrike on Jabalia a decade ago.
Quote:
Abu Foul said he was accused of terrorism and subjected to regular beatings by guards during interrogation when he was taken to Sde Teiman, in the Negev desert in southern Israel.
“They detained me like they detain everyone else — false accusations of terrorism that they place on all detainees. We’re not terrorists,” he said.
Quote:
Abu Foul said he also suffered severe back pain from the beatings and from being forced to sit on the ground all day without moving his head or leaning against anything for support — making it difficult now for him to walk or move.
One day, he was knocked unconscious for two hours after being hit on the head by a prison guard, he said, and awoke to find he had lost his vision. Abu Foul said he repeatedly asked for medical treatment and was given eye drops, which did nothing to help his eyes, including the pain and discharge he was experiencing.

In a report published in August 2024, Israeli human rights group B'Tselem said Israel has conducted a systematic policy of prisoner abuse and torture since the start of the war in Gaza, subjecting Palestinian detainees to acts ranging from arbitrary violence to sexual abuse.
"The testimonies clearly indicate a systematic, institutional policy focused on the continual abuse and torture of all Palestinian prisoners held by Israel," the report said.
