I’m still partial to the sweet little American kestrels. I had one follow me around on my mail route, because the lizards would get flushed out when I pulled up to the curbside boxes. It was the most amazing thing. I first noticed him when he landed in front of my truck to nab a curly-tailed lizard. My boss, a devout birder, never believed me until he rode with me to inspect the route. I could even tell him what tree the bird would be in. He’d start at Sw2nd St, then when I got to SW 29th Ave next he’d be there waiting etc. Then he would move on to the next community with me, but skip the one across the street because that was a female kestrel’s territory. Then he’d be waiting at the end of the main street. Halfway through that, he’d fly off to the church and perch on the steeple. I would stop in that parking lot to take a break after dropping the mail off there.
I named the falcon Romeo, since I was always looking for him.

AP News, NBC, and CNN all currently have it as their top stories, so it’s getting some play at least.

have you ever gone to a dog park with your falconry glove on and frantically looked around the sky just to see if everyone with a small dog will quickly pick up their dog and leave.... cuz that would be kinda funny!!!

Yep. Like the falconers say, it’s the only reason the birds come back.
That being said, I have very mixed feelings about falconry. As a way to rehab birds, it’s great. Otherwise, it can border on unethical in many ways.

So.... It's like every other time US foreign policy and aid hinged on whether or not a US friendly puppet was in power, willing to sell out their own people and country for $$$ in exchange for full and free pillaging of their own country's most valuable resources?

I used to live in Delray Beach, where the farmland west of town has been bought up by developers.
The latest celebrity resident out there is Mark Wahlberg. You should see the MAGAs and their “Welcome, Patriot!” crap.
I miss those farms and the country stores. What a disappointment.

On social media someone asked 'yesterdays march was great...now what?'
Lot of, now we vote, register voters, call congress people etc.
I said, you should all be out there again today...and tomorrow and the next day.

The midterm elections aren't happening for another year, Trump and company have done so much damage that you have to wonder if that voting even happens and if it does will they already have it in the bag?
They've already let this slip, they've shown no signs of carrying about anything other than unbridled power.
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/...n-miller-trump
Quote:
An odd moment in a CNN interview with Stephen Miller, the White House deputy chief of staff, has been circulating on social media after Miller’s distinct pause when discussing the “plenary authority” of the president. A technical glitch – crossed wires from another broadcast in Miller’s earpiece – caused him to stop talking before completing his thought, CNN said.
But the term “plenary authority”, has been taken as subtext for the broader ambitions of the Trump administration to assert legally unassailable power over the use of the military and other functions of government.

Yea, the protests are great, and it's good to see so many people finally engaged about what's happening. But with mid-terms being so far down the road, I'm thinking it's probably too little too late at this point.
America is pretty much over. It took Trump and his handlers just 8 1/2 months to completely dismantle U.S. democracy. By the time the mid-terms roll around next November (if they even happen), that country will be completely unrecognizable from what it once was. It already is in most respects.

France’s civilians extract concessions from governments with general strikes. You need to be willing to cripple the economy and lose jobs before change could happen.
Like if the National guard is deployed in your city you go on strike until they leave.

I’m having nightmares where I wake up to Stephen Miller coming at me with a chloroform rag, telling me it’s my time to go. I’ve been judged inferior, non-productive, too old.

Trump: "Don't forget I can use the Insurrection Act. 50% of the presidents almost have used that. And that's unquestioned power."
The last time a president invoked the Insurrection Act was in 1992 by George Bush to quell the LA Riots
Grant alone invoked the act eights times to deal with white southern resistance (like the Ku Klux Klan) to Reconstruction.
JFK invoked it three times in response to white southern opposition to reintegration of public schools (like the Ole Miss riot).
The Insurrection Act has been invoked 30 times in US history, but that doesnt mean that half of all presidents have used it.

I think that the only way the Americans come back from this, is for the traditional conservatives to retake control of their party. The democrats have proven themselves to not be an effective tool for change. Even if they gain power, I think that they will just exist within trumps new framework.
The same could be said for the UCP and CPC, and no doubt other pseudo libertarian parties around the globe.
