I see people on their phones non-stop. Doesn’t matter what they’re doing, they’re really not supposed to be on their phone.

Pedestrian fatalities are increasing all over North America. It’s due to increased distracted driving and bigger vehicles.
You don’t have to be texting to be distracted while driving. Searching for a podcast or Spotify playlist on AndroidAuto, or having a hands-free conversation, is also distracting.

When I ride my bike on my commute I'm surprised by the number of cyclists that try to ride and use their phones at the same time. Those are very special types of morons and I see it on every ride and it is not the same guy. Also I hate the cyclists who ride down the path with no hands. You're a grown ass man, ride your bike properly. No hands is for kids.

Take off your super-defensive Team Cyclist hat for a minute and ask yourself if cyclists signal when they turn or stop at stop signs as often as motorists. You can’t say with a straight face that they do. The next time you’re on a shared pathway, count the ratio of cyclists who use bells when they’re overtaking pedestrians and other cyclists, and those that just silently whizz past.
Cyclists have a deserved reputation for ignoring the rules of the road. Doesn’t make motorists perfect angels. But the best thing cyclists can do to change that reputation is actually obey the rules of the road / cycle paths. If even half of cyclists routinely signalled turns, used their bells, etc. their (our) reputation would improve.
|
That's absolute bull####. There's a strong psychological reason drivers hate cyclists, and it has nothing to do with rules being broken, because if that were the case, drivers would hate other drivers just as fiercely. Drivers hate cyclists because they are jealous of them. Not openly, oh no. That'd be embarrassing. They see someone able to take alternate routes and bypass traffic using pathways or wasted road space. They see a bike lane flowing with people while they are not moving. They see someone enjoying themselves while they are stuck in their misery box. They see someone making good lifestyle choices and doing something healthy while they depressingly down a double double and a doughnut or three. They see all their lives failures reflected in themselves. So what do they do? They take their anger out on that reflection.
No, no amount of obeying rules is going to change anything, because that isn't the cause of their distress. Hell, you can see it with several posters in this thread and their complete and utter bull#### notions of only ever seeing cyclists break laws. This is a vapid denial, factually false, fueled by deep psychological failures in their own lives and choices, such that their only response can be in black and white. That's the dead giveaway.

My friend is suffering from terrible brain damage. Twice she has been hit by distracted drivers.
Think about that next time you “quickly” check your facebook.

LOL. Guess you hate me.
Did you suck at it as a kid? Why would you hate someone who choose to sit on a bike differently? Isn't that, like, a really weird you problem? Hater. Hate is such a strong word. To hate someone due to their posture is probably something you should talk throguh with your therapist.
And when I'm riding with no hands it's usually a comfort issue. But I will admit that sometimes I do it just for fun. Now I know I can do it to make one specific other person unreasonably angry so I might just do it a lot more now.
So weird.

Imagine rarely seeing drivers break the law? Maybe Wietz should turn in his drivers license, because he clearly doesn't ave the observational skills to drive, if that is what he fails to see.

I hate the no hands cyclists for two main reasons:
1. They are slowing down the flow of the pathway because they are always moving slower.
2. They are less predictable on the pathway and have a lot more wandering from side to side. In an emergency situation they are also going to be far slower at reacting.

LOL. That leads to "hate"? Seek help. It's not healthy to hate someone for that.

My rule of hatred is, do anything as long it doesn't negatively affect anyone. Bikes breaking laws, I could care less until it negatively affects me or someone else. Go up the shoulder to skip traffic, more power to you, you cut into main lain in front of me causing me to slow to 35% speed doing that, FATA you.

This is why bringing up cyclists on CP is fun.
You really have to put in zero effort to get people like Weitz to raise their hands as the “I can’t be racist I don’t see colour” of drivers and like calgeo to start exploring some weird childhood trauma he directs at cyclists who sometimes don’t hold the handlebars.

I see hundreds of drivers a day. What % break laws?
I see less than 10 cyclists a day. What % break laws?
The % of cyclists that run lights and ride where they shouldn’t is far greater than the % of drivers who do.
No one is jealous of cyclists, but thanks for the laugh Fuzz.

90% of drivers are speeding and many are rolling stopping stuff so I’m going with more drivers are actively law breaking.
That cyclists break different laws than drivers isn’t material.

I was going home from downtown one time during rush hour, this cyclist popped out of this group of pedestrians but against traffic while I was turning left. But she was really pretty, had a great set of tits and smiled at me. So it was all good.

Denial is a good way to show it's a "you" issue.
Maybe ask yourself why it is you think that humans, of which we all are, behave vastly differently on average based on their mode of transport. Is it that people who choose to cycle are rule breaking humans, and tend to choose a mode of transport that supports their innate rule breaking? Or does cycling itself lead to people to choose to break rules, and this would appear elsewhere in their lives as well? Or is it more likely it's a bias in your brain, that may or may not be driven by your own life experiences and choices? If it's the earlier two, then I'm sure studies exist to back it up.
And if you don't notice drivers constantly breaking laws on all your drives, maybe you just don't know what the rules are, because I can assure you, if you are on the road for 10 minutes you are in a position to witness multiple infractions every time. I just got home and one lady behind me illegally entered an intersection, was on her phone at a red light, turned across two lanes illegally without signalling, and sped, all within about a minute. That's one person.

I can’t recall a period of driving that I haven’t seen someone breaking traffic law, and usually it’s in the dozens.

I've hated for way less than that. One of my super powers is 'hate at first sight'. My wife groans when she sees it happen. Once or twice a year I get hate at first sight with someone. I think it's charming of me.
