Brayden Point's game is based on speed. I think a better comparison would be Jonathan Toews. Or Brian Trottier

It wasn't in junior though. He was a poor to average skater who dedicated himself to being better when he got to the NHL, and put in the time to do so (with Barb Underhill).

I think Reschny will crack the lineup in time for the new building to open, which really only leaves the Flames to acquire the following by then to be competitive, assuming our other high end prospects develop as hoped:
-Superstar level top line C (hardest piece by far, hopefully get gifted McKenna)
-Middle 6 power LW
-Depth C
And, my personal favorite:
-13th forward angry face puncher

Power Lw would be Honzek. Depth C is a wierd need and we have several projects that could fit: Morton, Taco JR., Lipinski, Kerins...

I think the more apt comparison for what you're hoping he can be at the top end is probably more Patrice Bergeron (6'1", 196) or Brayden Point (5'11")
Stylistically they were less reliant on physical attributes but more leveraged their skating and work ethic and were more cerebral as players.
That's what Reschny has to emulate.

Reschny seems more like Daymond Langkow..

That's a solid comp but I hope he can get his skating to a higher level to raise the ceiling a bit.

If you're doing comparable Langkow is probably the 50% version of Bergeron.
So it's like
Max Potential: Bergeron
Mid Potential: Langkow
Low End: Name some smaller center that busted lol

Daymond Langkow seems like a really good comparison to me.
My hope in comparison: He has such a good career in Calgary that he joins the club of what future prospects are often compared to.

I’d put his max potential comp at Nicklas Backstrom. His vision and work ethic is top notch. He’s also not super flashy but sees the ice so well and is incredibly efficient in his playmaking like Backstrom was. He’s not at all selfish and can find open players on the attack, but he doesn’t shy away from the shot.
Mckenna would be amazing, but I’m curious how he’ll look with Coronato and Gridin in a couple years.

Langkow was a top 5 pick and if you rated every player taken 5th overall over a 40 year period of time I would guess he probably is mid point of that group.
So if Reschny at 18 in a less heralded draft became anything like Langkow. That's a hell of a good get way above expectations.
I find that a lot of posters are on the highly optimistic side of what a lot of the teams young players should realistically be expected to become.

From everything I read pre draft and a conversation with an NHL amateur scout for a CDN team post draft Reschny was never projected with first line center potential so not sure where people are getting these comps. I like the pick but his ceiling is likely 2nd line center but probably winger or third line center. I’ve heard some say Potter may have a higher ceiling but he too may also project more as an winger. Both good picks but expectations seem way too lofty here.

But pre draft rankings aren’t law, I mean if that scout was an Edmonton scout, I wouldn’t put much stock in it.

Bergeron was a 2nd round pick.
It's okay to think he might outgrow his pre-draft projections. It's just a game.

I was merely pointing out that some of the ceilings being listed here are incorrect and Reschny hasn’t done anything yet that should have changed that ceiling. Bergeron wouldn’t go in the 2nd in a redraft and yes there are good players found every year in the 20-40 range but they are the exception not the rule, hopefully 12-15 teams were all incorrect on Reschny and he’s been slotted incorrectly.
