With the players suspended for half a season, most teams wouldn’t waste time signing them IMO. If a team runs into injuries at that point, or if one needs a goalie, then maybe.

Macleod couldn’t wait around to find out. And in fact, if a team needs help when he’s unsuspended, his agent can say “he’s in game shape”.

KHL contracts - probably pretty easy to get out of.

Usually a big enough bribe will do the trick.

Although Russia and the IIHF/NHL don't have a transfer agreement, I don't believe. That's what probably complicates things a little more here.

Mitchkov was released from an ongoing KHL contract - the teams just arrived at a price. Demidov and Fedotov seem to have done something similar.

So Cal Foote was recently signed by the Wolves to an AHL contract. Interesting statements from Wolves President Wendell Young:

Quote:
The Chicago Wolves announced on Monday on social media that defenseman Cal Foote, 26, signed a standard AHL contract. The roster addition comes just months after Hurricanes fans protested the NHL team’s reported interest in two of the other defendants.
The Wolves’ governor and vice chairman, Wendell Young, tells Front Office Sports that Carolina has had full control over all signings since the teams renewed their partnership in 2024. Young says he first heard about Foote’s potential addition to the Wolves a few weeks ago from the player’s agent, not from Carolina.
“One-hundred percent not a Chicago Wolves signing,” Young says. “We understand the magnitude of this signing and everything surrounding it. The signing is out of our control, but now it’s our duty as an organization, our duty to our fans, to listen to the perspective and understand.”

Formenton is also officially disqualified from playing in the NHL this season as the December 1st deadline passed.

Unlike the others, he is still an RFA and the Sens declined to either sign him or trade his rights to another team, although it's doubtful anyone would trade for them anyway.
