Honestly, I wouldn't waste any assets to bring in a back-up goalie, especially at the expense of quality playing time for Sergeev and Say in the minors. The priority right now should be internal growth of those guys.
This team is not a back-up goalie away from being a viable playoff team. I get the notion that you don't need to solve all the big problems before solving small problems, but it's just so inconsequential right now and not worth an asset or creating a log jam that blocks our goalie prospects. If someone was taking back Cooley or Prosvetov in a one-for-one, perhaps because they want cap space, then fine, but that is as far as I would go.

I agree, but Calgary I believe doesn't mind making marginal upgrades if the cost is minimal.
Right now they believe the cost is more than marginal.

Dahlin and Thompson recently signed long term deals with the Sabres. What's their leverage here as this isn't a McDavid situation?

A player who wants out is bad for team morale. Especially if they are unhappy, which applies here. I think the Sabres have been learning about that a lot over the past several years. It is in their best interest to get rid of those players quickly.

Buffalo's roster looks good to me on paper. They should try hiring a good GM

Buffalo chanting "fire Adams" hasn't gone unnoticed.
The problem is the Pegula's have Ruff pegged as the next GM which I don't think fixes their current issues at all.

It always kinda felt that way when Terry and Kim brought Lindy back.

They have had some issues with injury.
Already ths season Greenway, UPL, Kesselring, Norris, Benson, and Samuelsson have been hurt.
They also need a veteran RH dman more than anyone - that's the team that really needed Andersson IMO.

At some point, they need to be looking to add they best assets and then wait for the right opportunity to add better NHL ready players with the additional assets.
Norris is gone long term, Cozens deal sure looks good for Ottawa now.
Eichel return is a bust considering how good Eichel is.
If they trade Thompson and Dahlin, they need to load up on picks and prospects. They will get a star with their own pick, but they could get someone of value that becomes available with the extra assets. Just need to wait on the right player. Maybe if they had a ton of extra picks they could have got McTavish. Draft day, maybe they could have made a run at SJ for Misa. They need to stop taking crap returns trying to stay competitive.
I was telling a buddy that I think they Flames should make a run at Thompson. Hopefully he becomes available and Buffalo sticks with their typical trade patterns and takes on players over picks.

Tough sell to the fan base to see their best players traded for futures, when they are already at 14 years out of the playoffs.
If they strip it down again, they are 5+ years away.
I guess going for 20?

Based on their past, Sharangovich + Pospisil should get it done!

would love Thompson for the right price but he will be 28 this month...don't want to give up too many futures.

Well, they already have 1C and 1D, which are the hardest to acquire, so the general situation doesn't seem bad, which does sound ludicrous considering how long their drought is. Just have to get the right pieces in to surround them. They lost too many trades too

The Flames have been chasing Buffalo players for over 3 years and there is just not a deal to be made. Couldn’t get Eichel, Cozens, or Byram. All of those players fit the specific need the flames had at the time but we never seemed to have the assets Buffalo wants

I also think the Eichel situation is where everything started to go wrong for the Sabres. He was their franchise player and they totally mishandled that situation. And now here we are.
