Kaprisov's contract looks more mercenary with each day passing. I don't know why Minnesota flubbed that one so badly.

Well their GM is terrible at his job, that is probably one reason.

I'm not sure he is, IMO. Him and the owner publicly announced they'd do whatever needed and it was an open chequebook for him. They took advantage. They're all business guys but they really didn't think before they spoke.

Anyway, the Hutson deal is really solid.

The Wild were in a tough spot. The alternative is having Karpizov leave and sinking into further irrelevance.

It's easy to say the contract is too high, but what was the alternative?

I also don't think this is necessarily a steal for Hutson. It's about right. He's a great offensive dman but he's not a great defender. So the question is, can teams win, when they have that much $$$ allocated to a top defender who isn't a complete defender. NYR has the same issue with Alan Fox.

I don't know about this either. I have doubts about offensive D man that are small in stature when it comes playoff time. Very few have made it work.

A large majority (77.6%) of the payout is signing bonuses. Lots of talk lately that the signing bonuses can be used to avoid high tax districts. I am not a tax lawyer so cannot confirm.

The new CBA caps signing bonuses at 60% starting next season.

I thought Lane would get more than Luke Hughes. I think this is a great deal for the Habs

Hughes is a far more complete dman.

I'd argue they'll fall into irrelevance when they can't do much with him tying up too much of the cap to do much else or take them over the top.

The alternative is you explore dealing him for a large package. Imagine the bidding he would have received this off-season?

Not sure
Would he demanding the same from other teams? If so what teams have the cap and assets to do that
Not easy deals to make

No doubt. From a cap perspective I'd guess teams would bend over backwards to get him. I guess we'll never know but it certainly seemed like he only wanted to be in Minny for money. What discount he'd give others, we'd never know, but if available I could imagine a team making other deals to make cap room.

Have you had smoked meat and Montreal bagels? What about the nightlife? I'd beg to differ (from 20 year old POV, even though I'm far from it)
