I went through there last December and there was a massive snow storm, so much so that Rogers Pass was closed on our way home... Never had an issue with the Hakkas and didn't once want for more traction, etc... That said, it can't hurt to have them I suppose.

Not that far west, but man I too am putting on the KM. Bought my car in May ‘24 and have just shy of 60,000km.

Not sure if you’ve used them before, but be careful with your RR’s ride height adjustment, givem ample clearance.

I’ve never used chains in my life. Land Rover only specify using them on the rear axle for the L405, which I suspect is for reasons of clearance. If the snow is bad enough to warrant using chains, I’d likely be putting the vehicle in off-road height.

I'm not sure what you're expecting, but Highway 1/97/33 are not chain-worthy roads for a passenger vehicle.

Good choice, it seems studded Hakka R10s are far and away the best ice braking tire out there, which is perfect for our climate.

That's exactly it, I don't know what to expect, I've never driven out that way in the winter.

I have seen signage implying that winter tires and/or tire chains are a good idea (with winter tires being the mandatory part of the equation), but if there's a chance I need something more substantial than just winters, I figured I'd be prepared.

M+S is the minimum. I've driven to Victoria in March, there are some slippery parts but 99.5% of the highways were plowed excellently.

Also important is to be prepared yourself with warm clothes, gloves, shovel, snacks, extra washer fluid, stuff you might need if you get stuck. If the weather is ####, try to keep a healthy fuel reserve. You may not get in an accident or stuck, but if someone else does or an avalanche closes the highway you could be idling to stay warm for many many hours. Most of the time these drives are uneventful, but it's the few that are that remind how sucky winter can be.

In a lot of the mountain passes in B.C. it is mandatory to have winter tires from October 1 to either March 31 or April 30th. 97A and 33 are both March 31 whereas Kicking Horse and Rogers Pass are both April 30.

Those roads tend to get enough traffic and plowing that if you were to need chains...the road will be closed.

Although my brother who lives in Kelowna assures me that you can often find someone in a Tesla in the Canadian Tire parking lot putting chains on their car when the parking lot and roads in town are bone dry.

Which is basically anything now besides pure summers. It's kind of a toothless law.

I drove home from Windermere yesterday, and despite the overnight snow the passes were all totally bone dry. Once you hit highway 1, past Canmore and everyone is now cooking along at 130km/h things seemed clear and fine. At Deadman's Flats there is a shady section that held onto its snow, and the traffic turned it to a layer of ice. I think we saw 4 vehicles that had collided and one in the ditch. It was a good reminder that the mountains are full of surprises, and winter tires early is better than winter tires late.

They don't check tires on 93 ever. But the situation I envision about the law is failing to have them, getting into an accident and having your insurer deny coverage because you "broke the law".
