Was happy to see the Tigers and Mariners go 15 innings. Wearing out their pitching staff and leaving little time for rest. Huge advantage for the Jays,

Both Castillo and Gilbert were going to throw today, regardless of coming in to relieve.

The state of baseball in 2025 is such that I legit think every team needs to have a roster spot for someone who is basically the designated bunter. The erosion of fundamentals is pretty comical, mix that in with the over managing of games and that leads mostly boring, not particularly well played games like last night to be labelled "classics". Jays should be pretty heavy favorites primarily because they are a fundamentally sound team who doesn't beat itself, unless they go Game 3 against the Yankees I would expect they win in five or less.

This is how I’d line up the Jays starters:
Yesavage
Gausman
Scherzer
Bieber
Bullpen
Gausman
Yesavage
I’d use Bassitt in a bulk role as part of a bullpen day. Scherzer has been bad but T-Mobile is so pitcher friendly that it could keep things in the ballpark.

If they have 4 starters they won't need a bullpen game. And if they bring both Bassitt and Scherzer back they certainly won't need a bullpen game.
Likely goes
Gausman
Yesavage
Bieber
Scherzer or Bassitt
Gausman
Yesavage
Bieber
IMO

I totally understand why the Jays chose to start Gausman in game 1 but I think grouping Yesavage, Bieber, and Scherzer/Bassitt together is a bit on a bullpen strain when there will be less arms down there. ETA - as I read this, it doesn’t make a lot of sense as Bieber, Scherzer, and a bullpen day is more strain than Yesavage, Bieber, Scherzer/Bassitt.
I like putting the best arms at home and the bigger question marks in Seattle where T-Mobile could shield them a bit. I also would like to have Gausman pitch in either game 6 or 7 with good rest which is why I liked the bullpen day.

Probably overthinking, but knowing Seattle is tired, likely have a few arms down and might not be at their best game 1 do you consider using a Scherzer or Bassit game 1, or just keep the top guys going and hopefully guarantee a series lead after game 1?

Was just announced gausman game 1. If thats the case you take the automatic win with your ace, also allows gausman to play 3 times in this series.

Gausman with regular rest would start games 1 (Sun) and 5 (Fri). Doubtful he pitches game 7 (Mon) except in an emergency role

Brian Woo who was the Mariners best starting pitcher this year threw a bullpen session yesterday and its expected he will be on the roster. But not available for game 1, and likely game 2. Bryce Miller likely to get the start in game 1.

In comparison to the Yankees, I think the Mariners have a slightly better rotation and, at the plate, they have less overall power but are less all or nothing. They do play significantly better defense and have a more solid bullpen from top to bottom.
This series won’t be easy but the Jays can win if they play their game consistently.
We can’t take the Mariners lightly. They are a really well built team and deserve to be in the ALCS.
It would be fantastic to exorcise the demons from 2022.
