The chart below reflects a workers vacation time after one year of service, it's 9 years old but I suspect not much has changed, I know the US looks really bad because they don't have a national law for vacation time but I suspect most still get a minimal 10 days, the UK is something else and I know Australia is great for vacation time as well, a former in-law of mine got 10 weeks of vacation after working 15 years at her job, missing from the list is Finland (voted #1 for happiest people on earth), they get 2.5 vacation days per month worked resulting in 6 weeks of paid leave after working one year.

Make no wonder the west has so many happy billionaire's and miserable workers

I think holidays build community.

They also provide a much better break from work and are more able to spend time with others when everybody has them.

These days become meaningful because people have them off work. I would hope eventually Alberta recognizes as an official holiday.

I've been reading a lot of indigenous authors recently. I highly recommend Richard Wagamese's book Embers: One Ojibway's Meditations. I find the spiritualism of some indigenous cultures really resonates with me today.

Its commonly known that the French and Spanish barely even go to work in the first place.

I read Medicine Walk last year. It was great.
