On a side note, I think I might be over AAA gaming. I mean I have some interest in eventually playing things like Spider-Man 2 and Yotei, but they keep being pushed down the list by amazing indie games like Balatro, Monster Train 2, Hades 2, Deep Rock Galactic Survivor, and now Absolum. Games that are a fraction of the price of those AAA titles and don't make me feel like I have to take my GTX 1080 out behind the shed Ol' Yeller style. And they're so easy to drop in and out of, unlike the bigger games where if I don't end up playing for a few weeks I've forgotten half the plot and all of the controls. Maybe I'm just entering my old man gaming phase

No Soulstone Survivors on that list?
But yeah, lots of games to play is great. I do like to crank things up on a ridiculous screen though. A 5090 isn't needed but it is a super nice thing to have to run stuff at unreasonable levels.

Well it is now

If you liked Tsushima you'll like Yotei. It's similar to how Miles Morales was to Spider Man in how it's less of a sequel to the game it's following and more an extension of the same game. There's not really much new but it hits the same high notes the first one did. Unfortunately there is also zero post game content right now, hopefully in 3-6 months when they add the ability to reload bases or something I'm ready to go back to it.
Standard AAA big game that's the same as the first one but it's a good time.

Standard 1st party Sony sequel this generation. TLOU2 is the last Sony 1st party sequel where they took a bit of a risk but since then it's been color by numbers. The Sony 1st party formula has become a little stale as they all feel like extensions of the same game rather than sequels. That said I can understand that the executives and bean counters are probably pretty risk averse when it comes to new ideas or changes to popular sequels so the developers likely aren't able to be nearly as creative as they would like to be. I'm sure Yotei will sell very well so mission accomplished for Sony but it's getting a little harder to get excited for these games.

correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't you one of the biggest critics of TLOU2 on here? Not trying to be a dick, I agree with your post, it's just a bit funny from someone who didn't like it when "they took a bit of a risk"
Genuine question as I can’t think of one off the top of my head, but have there been any AAA direct sequels in the last decade or two that haven’t been largely the same as the predecessor?
Maybe some with a larger gap where platform changes or advancements in technology make more possible, but we’re also at a point where the gap between generations is much smaller technologically speaking than it used to be. SNES to N64 was a huge leap, Switch to Switch 2 really isn’t (for example).
