I know Godnek has been pretty meh, but I'd still prefer that to whatever Farkas might do.

But you have to admit, it will be interesting. I have a perverse thing where I kinda want weird people to get in power just to see what happens.
Tell my grandkids that I was alive when Donald Trump was President (twice). And then he won again.
I want eras that are distinct looking back. Bland Duerr, Stephen Harper vanilla. I want bombastic Pierre Trudeau. I think Gondek is crappy but also too nothingburger. She just looks like she needs to sleep more.
Farkas will be like "I can't believe he said that". That being said I didn't vote for him.
It's like the Flames. I would way prefer a nutball trade to watching a win. I fully admit that.

That's fine for the US, or, like, Edmonton. Not here! I'll take bland.

This is so weird to read, but I suspect there are a lot of voters who are like you.
It seems out of this world that we at a point of time where voters vote based on who would entertain them the most, knowing their life would likely end up worse by the end of the term.
I feel like this is the first time I've ever really understood the negative trajectory for society. People just want to be distracted / entertained. And tragedy is interesting for so many people.
TLDR: We're screwed as a society.

We're screwed either way, might as well get some entertainment out of it.

Watching a bunch of hillbillies lose their mind over Gondek because...I forget - what was it again? Anyways that was kinda entertaining.

I mean, I went Gondek last time as an "anybody-but-Farkas" vote, and have been pretty unimpressed with her. I won't vote for her again.
It seems the main other choices are Farkas and Sharp. And Sharp is a UCP shill.
I don't agree with everything Farkas says but I think he's smart, cares and has backbone. Sort of like Nenshi when I type it out actually. I voted for Nenshi every time even though I didn't agree with everything he said/did, and it never bothered me that he was out there being abrasive about what he believed in. I think Farkas has enough oomph to stand up the UCP when necessary.

I realize Farkas frequents this messaging board and want to be cognisant of his feelings. But I don't see him as suitable for mayor at this time. He served on council for one term and it didn't go particularly well in terms of being effective in progressing initiatives or working with colleagues. Much of that time was him setting the stage for his mayoral bid. Outside of those four years, what exactly is his career experience that prepares him for the mayoral position? Even more charitably - what has he done over the past four years that makes him more suitable for the role?

I voted for Farkas last time moreso because I felt Gondek wasn't suitable. And having Farkas saying "no" to everything would be better than Gondek progressing forward the wrong initiatives
For what ever reason, I've also changed my mind. There are a lot of things I dislike about Gondek, but she is reasonably competent and comes across as a good person.

Too many people list Fight Club as their favourite movie and Tyler Durden as a hero.
COVID was an adventure. I'm ready to go back to boring.

I've been watching all of the debates on YouTube and I've noticed that Farkas seems to always claim to be from nearby whichever community is hosting that particular event
I'm sure he's just trying to be a welcoming man of the people, man about town, etc, and it's not affecting my vote. I just thought it was a funny thing to notice as I watch these back to back.

I guess technically you could be 'from' a community provided you lived there for some amount of time in your life. I'm from Winnipeg, but I'm also from Tuscany, Greenview, West Village, Victoria Park, Garrison Green, and Connaught.

I called him on this in a Reddit AMA way back when he was first running for councillor. Instead of addressing the inconsistency, he went back and edited his comment and basically accused me of stalking him for simply pointing out he claimed to be on the board of one community while also saying he lived in a different community. Dude is a weathervane.

I was ready to vote for Farkas but it's clear he's still not ready. He's against blanket rezoning, and can't give a real reason why. It's like he's against it just to go against Gondek on a major issue, for the sake of it.
Sharp is a clown, nothing more needs to be said there.
I like Gondek, but after listening to him I think I like Thiessen more

Tis the issue that I'm in myself. I prefer Thiessen over Gondek, but I dont want Sharp or Farkas. Do I vote strategically or who I think is best. I'm leaning towards who I think is best because the more strategic we are the more we lean into a two candidate, or in larger elections two party systems. I dont like that in the US and prefer Canada where we have more than 2, albeit not always strong, parties.

I have a free life now. I’m in my extra life when I was done. I correctly realize what I believe or think should be, is trivial and does not matter so enjoy the roller coaster because it mostly cannot be changed. Definitely nihilist . Not being full of venom is completely worth it. I’m choosing not to be.

Makes me wish for ranked ballots, especially on the municipal level.
I did that last time, went Gondek over my preferred candidate (Jan Damery) just to vote strategically. This time I think I'm just going to vote for who I believe in and leave it at that
