The last time we saw the Oilers play they lost in the cup final (again). What a glorious night.

I hope the Flames trash talk every one of those losers.

The Oilers lost their best trash talker in Kane too.

Can't imagine what the twins beaking game must be like. Has to be awful. I think they just bitch and pout.

Do kind of miss having Pospisil for this one.

Let’s go Flames! No expectations for the team other than providing entertaining hockey. Excited to see what the kids can do and how Wolf does in his sophomore year. Destroy the oil please and thank you.

Want this one badly tonight. While I think the flames need to rebuild and embrace that path a little more, kicking the oilers and starting them off badly again would be amazing and looking at their roster I think a bad start could result in a really tough season for them, they have 3 borderline AHLers on defence, terrible goaltending and about 6 decent NHL level forwards who are proven.

Of course they have the two best players in the world dragging them along, but with their team aging I feel like this season or next one prolonged bad stretch could really damage them.

Also I like that finally the flames can match them for toughness. With Pachal, Klapka, Lomberg and maybe even Bahl and Farabee all capable fighters and the Oilers basically down to Nurse and Frederic, maybe Ekholm in a pinch, I'd like to see the Flames bully them a bit

I think that the Oilers lost a lot of team toughness and grit in the off season. They are slower, smaller, and less intimidating at this point. Of course, they have two dynamic offensive players who will be on the ice for half the game. I have trouble looking at their roster and thinking that they are better this year over last year.

I'm excited to watch Wolfie and that 2nd line of Gridin-Frost-Coronato. I just love the look of that line!

At the same time I'm uneasy about how well this defense handles the their front-loaded first line which will be double shifted if the game is tight. I hope guys are sharp or it could get ugly.

Yep, it's going to be an immediate mute on the broadcast for me. SNET is going to treat it like the Oilers are coming off of 2 Stanley Cup wins and the Flames won't even be discussed for more than a brief occasional mention.

Unfortunately it also feels ripe for another season-opening blowout loss in Edmonton. But that might be the PTSD from 2016 and 2021 talking.

I'd love to be surprised and see the Flames stomp them though!

Yeah I agree - I think they are really hoping the two smallish soft young wingers they've added are something special that no one else really sees - I hope the Flames play hard and don't give them any unnecessary confidence boosts like we have in past seasons.

It's too bad the Flames didn't land Jeannot this summer too they would really actually be a fairly tough team this year, I think the weakness there is they don't really have the one heavy/middleweight who can stand up to the real beasts. Admire Lomberg for taking his beatings against guys like Olivier though ha.

Put McDavid through the boards or smash him into the net on one of his "no one touch me" drives to the net early, let them lose their composure and Nurse get his game misconduct out of the way chasing around a swede or a rookie and mugging them and run it up boys.

I'm going to guess 5-1 loss. 2 EN goals at the end with Kadri scoring for Calgary.

There are a lot of Flames killers missing in that lineup. Perry and Kane have moved on, Hyman is injured. That's why the Oilers are going to have a hard time generating any momentum unless they play their 1st line for over 30mins.

I expect Coleman, Zary and Sharangovich to have a good game and look much better than they did in preseason.

Let's go Flames, huge 2 points.

Sadly, I think that it is more the refs I worry about. Limit the powerplays and play Edmonton tight 5 on 5 and I like our chances. Of course, if they play like they did against Vancouver last week and this could be over quickly.

Yup, this is what I figure will be the deciding factor in tonights game. As much as I want a Flames win I don't see the officials not game managing the Oilers every chance to win this one.

Not sure that plays out so well.

Flames player: “Boy you guys suck something fierce. Two time losers, Panthers must seem like Krypotonite. Oh well, least your captain is invested in the future……if the world ends in two years.”

Rando Oiler guy: “…….. You do any fishing last May and June?”

So a 9pm puck drop after the Oilers do their preseason chumps and cup losers banner raising ceremony?

Howard probably thought he'd be on Mcdavid's line, but instead they're putting Trent Frederic there. Brilliant.
