Precisely, they had it in their hands then 2 pretty terrible errors gave the Yankees life

So they say but back in the day (for decades) there was only four man rotations and starters would fairly routinely throw 8 or 9 innings, plus they didn’t have the training/nutrition/scientific workouts that are available now etc, so I dunno. I’m sceptical.

The most frustrating thing about tonight was watching one of the best defensive team in the league blow multiple easy plays.
They were fielding like the Yankees usually do.

Unfortunately, I think that is wishful thinking. I don’t think the MLB would look kindly on an obvious attempt to flout the roster rules.

Even a new fan could see the defensive mistakes result in runs for NYY.

Most of the relievers can probably pitch tomorrow as they kept counts low.

Big choke. Only 3 hits in over 7 innings against the Yankees pen is sad.
Hopefully just a bump on the road to the World Series and not the start of a historic collapse.

There’s a lot of science to support the fact that baseball players put tremendous strain on their arms. instances of Tommy John’s surgery have gone way up in the last few decades. Especially because velocity is such a huge factor now for pitchers.
There’s some other reasons why starting pitchers pitch less. Analytics show that you don’t want to face a lineup more than about three times or it makes it much easier on the batters.

Yes I was responding to someone asking what the deal was with another poster saying the pen will be tired.

Schenider issues:
1) Pulling Beiber. Early in my opinion. Fluharty fine but sets everyone back.
2) After getting excited about the third inning and going up 6-1, when Yanks change out of Rodon, Schenider inexplicably takes IKF out so Barger can strike out on 5 pitches. (and strikeout and weakly ground out the rest of the game).
3)Barger then waves off the outfielder and drops a ball.
4) Schenider walks Judge 7 times this season but then doesn’t. Bargers issue now cost 3 runs and they lose by 3 runs.
The IKF error and Santander meh. This “defensive errors” Snet is harping on was all on Barger who didn’t need to be in the game at that point.
Now this same manager who blew the bullpen deployment against the Mariners and Twins in past playoff embarrassments , and made some unconfident decisions, has to make a bunch of decisions tomorrow or risk a game 5 coin flip.

Did I hear they will go back to the rookie in Game 5? That’s some pressure on a kid who just played his first playoff game.

The positive, Friday night game 5 at Skydome will be a lot of fun! Tense as hell but fun. Hopefully the Jays can refind their mojo at home.
Nobody, including me, can anticipate them winning tomorrow with the pitching matchup and our roster rattled. Which means all pressure is off. If the loss is guaranteed then you have nothing to lose. Prove us wrong tomorrow Blue Jays!

This is exactly the situation they win. Nobody expects it. Lots of money lost on the book. Jays win tomorrow

Agreed. Adding to your thoughts - Pitching (especially at max effort) is an extremely unnatural thing for an arm to do.
Starters rarely pitch at max effort and are still at major risk to arm damage due to overuse.
Relief pitchers often rely on max effort pitching to allow them to be successful with 2 or maybe 3 types of pitches. If they aren’t able to give 100%, their performance can be significantly impacted because a 2-3 MPH loss or a small change in the movement could make them extremely hittable as well as putting them at significant risk of injury.

The negative. Lots.
Won’t dwell but Barger has been incredibly disappointing for a while now. I guess he built up a lot of good will with his hot stretch this year but almost nothing these last couple months show he’s contributing to our success.
Keep him on the bench and if we need a power bat late in the game to pinch hit and whiff out he’s our man.

The roster rules are clear - you can replace an injured player
I’m sure everyone’s shoulders are sore right now .

Yeah don’t think that’s going to fly with the MLB. If they wanted Bassitt on the roster, they needed to have him on the roster.

Yep, another flashback to the chokejob against Seattle. Only this time they atleast have two chances to redeem themselves.
