I mean if we were looking at this roster from say a Vegas Knights fan perspective, we are calling the Flames a bad team in the division to take advantage of. The whole was greater than the sum of the parts last season but there's no guarantee that it's repeated this season.

How do you figure? Is there a superstar on it? No. They do however have better depth at forward then most teams in the league. If they can roll 4 lines and outwork the opposition they will win a lot of games.

I think the Flames will surprise a lot of teams this year. Will we struggle at times, for sure, we are the farthest thing from a complete team right now, but we have the building blocks and the infusion of youth can't be overlooked.
I am not one for analytics either, but there were a TON of Flames that underperformed last year ... if even just half of them head back to the averages, this team is going to be better. And don't underestimate Wolf and his competitive desire to put the team on his back. I think he continues to make his way up the charts as one of the better goalies in the league.
Do we have warts? Absolutely. Will we struggle some nights - you bet we will. One thing I have learned is to never underestimate when a team plays for each other and the culture on the Flames over the past couple of seasons has taken a remarkable shift. They are going to surprise a few of the pundits out there.
I will always cheer for my Flames, win or lose. I just enjoy watching them to whatever end. Here's hoping for a good season.

Not sure why Honzek was called up.
If anyone should have been called up it is Kerins.
Honzo needs to stay in the AHL until he can show consistency. Giving him priority treatment over other prospects does him a disservice as it sends the message he is on the right track, when he has not shown this. It also sends the wrong message to the other prospects.

Frost, Farabee and Sharengovich don't do much more me. Don't know how much hockey Backlund has left in him and Coleman is 34 next month. Back up could be the difference between a wild card spot or out depending on how things shake out.
Zero expectations for Gridin or Parekh

Having a bunch more 3rd/4th liners than top 6 players do not mean depth
Face it, it’s a rebuilding team that is missing key pieces
No expectations, except for a potential tank

I'm less stressed about how this season shakes out to be honest.
I'd like to see good rookie seasons from Parekh and Gridin, I'd like to see Wolf doing Wolf things and stealing games.
If we make playoffs - Cool, we had no expectations
If we dont - This is a great year to be be bad and have a shot at generational talent
What I don't want to see:
Significant injuries
Going into the deadline in a wildcard spot (again) and not selling assets for picks/prospects etc
Extending Rasmus

Lot less stress this season, from a fan perspective, simply not having that Monahan 1st round pick compensation (along with all the variables of whether it'll be ours or Florida's) to the Habs looming over the season.
I'm hoping to see progress from the younger players. Don't much care about the standings, TBH.
Edit: also hoping to see Andersson & another vet traded

Yeah the stench of Treliving is finally out of the organization which makes for a better season even if it doesn't play out well on the ice. Accumulate more draft capital and hope this team can hit on more young players as that's the only way this team is ever going to get over the hurdle of being a consistent playoff team and cup contender.

Wonder if they are working on addressing the backup goalie problem or if they are just going to accept the 25 losses when he starts.

Or maybe Cooley will actually get over his mental stuff and play more like the way he started last year? I know nobody actually thought of that possibility, but just sayin...

Fans cut forwards and defencemen slack for blah pre season showings all the time. Although it certainly won't be a strength, the backup isn't going to be so consistently bad that the team will lose every game because of it.

I agree, here's what's left of Tre's impact:
Contracts signed by Tre: Huberdeau, Kadri, Coleman, Weegar, Andersson
Caphit: $33M
I could see 2-3 of them being gone by the start of next season.
Players drafted by Tre: Pospisil, Wolf, Zary, Coronato.
Prospects drafted by Tre: Kuznetsov, Poirier, Kerins, Stromgren, Sergeev, Ciona, Bell, Chechelev

Flames have two wingers that are starting on the IR.
They play 3 games in 4 days
Recall in my opinion, makes perfect sense...
i.e. recall a winger,
Clearly, he is next up in the depth charts

I don't know what if any mental stuff he's going through but he could have the best mental health in the world and it would still be obvious he's not an NHL capable goaltender. Go back to his three years in College or one year in the BCHL he's the back up, mostly always has been, transitioning to the AHL, back up.
And you could say well that's perfect that's what he'll be doing here but I think you need to have a guy capable of supporting a second year goalie much more.

Roster reminds me of the Canadiens teams with Price, a couple key defencemen and depth with no real stars up front. Could sneak in, but probably better off long term if we finish low and draft high.

My goal this year is to just enjoy the ride. I am not hoping for losses nor am I going to lament the wins (lost McKenna points).
I am going to try to be one of these super supportive fans who just enjoys hockey for the game that it is.
Wish me luck, LOL!

- Played lights out first half of season
- Concussion
- Came back and didn't even know what he was doing half the time
- Working on the mental part in the summer
