If the coaching staff sees Rasmus-Bahl and Weegar-Hanley as established pairs (At least until Rasmus is traded) that means you have Zayne playing with a vet (Bean or Pachal) or another rookie (Kuznetzov). There is probably a desire to get the season off to a good start, including against a series of tough opponents, so leaning on your established top 4 is reasonable.

It's worth noting that the coaching staff has also be pretty complementary towards Bean in the pre-season. They seem happy with him.

I was relieved they didn't lose Kuznetzov on waivers. I think there is still a player there. But since they got away with it, the best thing is for him to go down and play big minutes.
The not pairing rookies together is the only angle that makes sense.

But their pairing shouldn't be that crystallized either. You never know how its going to shake out on the ice when the games start.

None of these pairings have been rock solid enough to declare that any one is an established pairing.

Im also grateful Kuz passed through.

We'll see when the real action starts.

None will be on the Flames roster next year. So who cares which of the three of them is in for 30-40 games this year?

The angst and hand wringing and anger that waiving Solovyov has caused is approximately 487,573 times more than is warranted.

No more out to lunch than ANYONE that believes Miro should be on this roster, and Solo in COL.

If you don't think the Hanifin trade is a factor, perhaps you should tell Conroy/Huska to open their eyes.

Ah, this is just a little concern. Got it. About an asset management gaff by Conroy, which is about as consequential as accidentally dropping a nickel and watching it roll into the sewer grate. Who knows how much return that nickel could have generated if only it wasn't dropped!

I hope you never get truly awful news anytime in your lifetime, it's liable to kill you.

Designated pop corn muncher is one of the worst spots to be in. It certainly doesn't say anything about the organization valuing you. You aren't good enough to play and we don't care enough to develop you further. And we certainly don't want you taking ice time in the AHL away from guys we do still want to develop. It's no man's land. Purgatory.

There's an element to this which is also doing right by Solo. He is a pending UFA. He needs to play - either at the NHL or AHL level. Putting him on waivers ensured one of those things would happen.

They aren't even giving Miro that courtesy. He's likely out of the NHL at the end of the season.

Bean should be the #7 or #8 D-man.

As for Miromanov, he should be the #0 defenseman....in any NHL organization.

Wow. A little harmless disagreement with some hard core fellow Flames fans turned into this?

I have experienced more personal loss and heartbreak in the last 10 years than most do in a lifetime. Don't come at me with how I'd handle awful news.

My God, I think Miro sucks and Conroy dropped the ball on that one, bottom line. No one is as emotionally invested as you're making it out to be.

TSN has the Flames finishing 6th in the division. Yes yes, let's the ignorance flow through you Mike Johnson. I stand by my 99 point season for this squad.

Craig Button has every Cdn team making the playoffs except for the Flames lol.

Canucks and the Ducks in and Vegas to win the cup.... I guess he is just as delusional as when he traded Savard.

I actually didn't think that Miromanov had that bad of a camp. He's unlucky that he plays on the right side IMO. I was a bit surprised he was among the top 3 fittest Flames, so he clearly put in the work this summer. He's still a better option than what we had in Oesterle, DeSimone, Gilbert, or MacKey in the past.

Did Kuzy and Solo look better than Miromanov in training camp? Probably, but they also looked better than Bean. At the end of the day, I don't really think it really hurts anyone's development. If Solo ever becomes more than a bottom pairing D-men, then I would gladly thank every "I told you so" post after the fact.

I'm guessing that the main factor in the decision to send down Kuzy was actually Parekh, and the fact that he will start the season on the more sheltered 3rd pairing, instead of the top 4. I don't think the coaches were comfortable with an all rookie pairing right off the bat. And I think that playing games in the AHL is better than being healthy scratched in the NHL.

That's realistically accurate though.

Canucks won't make it IMO, every other team in Canada will I think. Ducks will battle Flames for last position.

I think Ducks shock a lot of people and finish higher.

It’s not a cop out just because you disagree. A lot of players top out as good in the AHL and the Flames clearly didn’t think Soloyov was ready. I’ll eat crow if I am wrong but feels about the same as the Phillips panic on here.

I came here to read about an excited fanbase to have another prospect (Honzek) recalled to start the season, but the disagreements about bubble defenseman seem to draw out more emotion & drama. I’m happy to see the Flames/Huska embracing the next generation of players instead of historically overpaying free agents or trading for washed up vets. I think the dressing room will also benefit from the youthful enthusiasm and naivety guys like Parekh, Gridin, and Honzek will contribute. I have no doubt they will be sheltered and introduced to responsibility slowly, but as one of the fans that believe in Conroys strategy of building from within I’m excited to see fresh faces full of potential.

Hopefully a case of getting up to speed (thinking and playing speed). He's an intelligent kid though, so I trust him to adapt in time.
I'll be honest and I know this won't be a popular opinion, but I am personally really apprehensive about him. I think a lot of people expecting a Makar or even a Karlsson level player one day are being overly optimistic. I do think he will be an NHL player, but more in a niche capacity.

I hope I am wrong of course. Being 19 right now, we are likely still a few years from really knowing. It's just really too bad that he has nothing left to learn in junior, but also cannot be ripened a little more in the AHL, because he still has a lot to learn.

He can work on his elusiveness and defensive positioning in practice, and it'll go that much better for him when he hits the ice for a game.

This is a player who might be carrying a big load for this franchise for the next decade. It doesn't have to all happen on Day 1.
Hutson played 82 games for the Habs last year, and I believe he is much smaller than Parekh.

Let Zayne play!
