The supporting cast has never been this bad and its fully on them now.

Even Perry shouldered some of that load in his two seasons.

Now they just have scraps and journeymen filling out the roster, relying on two kids to be productive nhlers in year one who aren't even considered blue chippers. Good luck with that

Haha stupid Oilers...

I hope they suck ass then and we finish our new building in time to try and lure McJesus to it.

It’s a team friendly deal to try to win. Brady did it for years with the Pats. They aren’t far off, making the final the last two seasons, but I don’t think that management group has a clue.

Perry was their 3rd best forward in the playoffs...Kane was huge in the first 3 rounds with physicality

There are actually pundits who think they're better this year, despite losing both of those players.

Imagine being that drunk on the kool-aid.

Oh, I believe Steve Dangle was one. Imagine reading off Mangiapane, Tomasek and Frederic as notables and thinking that's cup contention type of depth.

Frederic was there for the playoffs last year too

Would have preferred a one year deal. Or no deal.

Its probably not good that I dont remember what he contributed to that run. I thought he was hurt for a portion of it.

Doing a low AAV deal for a year or two to chase a cup makes some sense, to set up an 8 year max deal that takes you to age 39 or 40. But if he's willing to take on that risk of leaving money on the table I'd way rather take it to UFA this summer and choose a team like Dallas or LA.

But I'm guessing there's a backroom guarantee here, and he wouldn't have the necessary level of trust as he does with his current scumbag benefactor.

I can actually respect McDavid for doing this. He has given the team a clear and precise message and left a lot of money on the table for them to do something with. I don't think the Walman contract was the right usage but they have the opportunity to do so.

It is also a very tradable contract if he doesn't like the direction and the oilers could probably still get good assets in return.

He's getting more, we just don't see it.
No need for a tinfoil hat, money is not an object for McDavid, his endorsement deals alone make up and lost profit.

Money is always an object. Lots of athletes make way more than McDavid, both in their contract and endorsements.

I love the tinfoil hat theories personally, especially since it is happening with a prominent NBA player currently.

What's a couple million bucks when you already have a heated driveway?

Was reading the Athletic article about this and they consider it a two year window with the 3rd year (last year on the extension) being a possible trade year or "escape hatch" in their wording depending on how things go. If they fail miserably especially in the 26/27 season, the chances are that the Oilers trade him in the offseason so this extension really only guarantees two more seasons of McDavid with the 3rd season hinging on how competitive the team is in another two seasons.
