I'm hoping to attend the next debate on Tuesday and ask a question about sports/cultural event funding which is something that's really important to me.

Yeah, i see it as issue with the two progressive candidates splitting the vote and Ward winning, he is way too ucp to be useful for anything good.
Have talked to Penner before and she knows her stuff. Williams is a little too focused, for me at least, on the mobility/transit issues, thats all i have seen of him. Didnt see the debate though.
Will likely vote for Penner again. Im not a fan of that chicken either, much ado about mid chicken.

Any thoughts before I commit?

Final follow up: Myke Atkinson (Ward 7 Candidate) registered a CP account today and is waiting for approval. He'll start an AMA thread next week in off topic.

I'll probably vote for Alex. He answered my email with my questions which is more than I can say about Ward and Penner when she was/is in office.
I'm worried about a vote split as well.

For context, I had just moved into to ward and was responding to one of her monthly video updates regarding new development in the area.

There was a spicy moment in the Ward 14 councillor debate today. Keener Hachey called out Devin Elkin for using Demong's office and influence unfairly, including using Demong's mailing list to send an email blast under his campaign email with Deming endorsing Elkin. Demong stormed up to the mic and called the accusation "trash", said he did nothing wrong, and when called out again on the obvious issue with this said "then there was an error with the email". There was lots of arguing off the mic, and then Demong randomly says "I did not vote for high density housing" at the end.
Im still catching up but this is all conservative candidates (only 4 showed up) so they're trying to differentiate themselves with all the usual Conservative wedge issue talking points.

Early voting starts tomorrow.
If you see candidate signs up in front of the poling station, or anywhere on the property of the building that the voting station is set up within, you should call 311 to have them removed.
If you are unsure, the information they should be following is on this elections calgary page

Apologies if already posted, by for my fellow Ward 4 (and 3) neighbours it seems like a quack is running for School Board Trustee.

Penner has been rubbish as a representative of Ward 11. Blanket rezoning, paper bag bylaw, supporting that ludicrous development in Glenmore Landing, a useless temporarily bike lane on 18th Street SE, you name it. She won't ever return your calls or messages, and if you don't support her pet projects her office pretty much ignores you. Pretty much a puppet for Gondek. She did spend a bunch of time & money coming up with an official bird for Calgary though.

I think the biggest criticism I have of Penner is her lack of communication with constituents. It's simply awful.

I think she’s about to get wrecked. She didn’t win by much last time and the issues with her communication are something I’ve heard from a bunch of people. She wouldn’t even meet with the community association here, but she met with Riocan about 7 times (at least from what I heard from someone who would definitely know).

I agree she is useless but I really don’t understand why there is so much hate for this. It impacted nothing. Everyone complains about people driving fast and cutting through Riverbend on 18th. City finally does a small pilot project to create some sort of traffic calming and people lose their minds and vandalize the project every night. It created at most 30 seconds inconvenience to my life everyday during the project (I live at the end of 18th and drove it daily).

I actually wouldn’t even be surprised if she comes in third in Ward 11. I don’t know anybody here in Riverbend who is voting for her again, she’s been completely invisible in this community for her entire tenure. Rob Ward only lost by about 800 votes last election and will likely win in a landslide even though he is party affiliated. I can even see Alex Williams getting more votes even though he’s party affiliated as well. I think I’ve only seen a single Penner lawn sign in Riverbend.

The first batch of reports for campaign financing and expenses has been released as the deadline was October 1. The reports are up to July 31. What I found interesting is that some of the parties involved in the municipal campaign are charging their candidates fairly substantial monthly fees. Upwards of $2,000 per monthly in party fees. I wonder if that will be worth it?

I’m disappointed in Penner (who I voted for last time around), but I’ll be even more disappointed if Ward wins. His core constituency is cranky, anti-tax, NIMBY seniors who hate everything the city does except maybe snow removal (which should be done faster and more often, even though they’re against paying more taxes for it).
I’ll be voting for Williams, and hope everyone disappointed in Penner who doesn’t want a UCP-style city councillor in Ward 11 does the same.
