Teachers are desperate, begging for something to change, and collective bargaining is really the only place it can happen. For many teachers, myself included, this round of bargaining is a “last stand”. I have been seriously considering leaving the profession and a #### deal here will accelerate that/exacerbate that feeling.
I can’t share exact results or comments from the survey but the number of teachers actively seeking other work more than tripled between 2019 and 2023. There is a crisis in the workforce. Over 60% of survey respondents said they would leave teaching at the drop of a hat if they were offered something else with the same salary and benefits. That number was under 30% in 2019.
So I don’t see teachers budging here. The government is going to have to force us back and I don’t see DS doing that until the 27th, barring a change of heart because of immense public pressure.

Yep. It looks like an unstoppable force is about to meet an immovable object.
I hope not.

If someone has a masters degree in, say, psychology, can they get credit for, say, two years if they go into education? Wouid the end result be a BEd degree or a Ed diploma?

I have what's known as a "BEd after". I have a first degree (BMus) and it took an equivalent of 2 years to get the Ed degree. It helped that my BMus was aimed at being a music teacher. In fact, I was certified and could teach with a BMus plus about a year of teaching courses. But I got the full Ed after.

I thought you were a Lawyer? And a teacher?
I think I've got a cigarette and a blindfold around here somewhere...just go stand by that wall over there...

I think this deal will shape the education landscape in this province for the next couple of decades. There's a lot on the line for students and teachers.
I'll personally never vote yes to a deal presented by this government.

Absolutely packed at the rally for teachers at McDougall. Really great to see the support.

My wife is there with our son. Apparently there was 20,000 at the Legislature in Edmonton for their rally.

I think it lines up perfectly with the UCPs patterns. Shut down the schools so they have a cheap child labour available for the new Alberta Postal Service

Yet another article pointing out the cruelty of the UCP towards the disabled. MAID is being considered by a growing number of people over this.

Oh great! And the ones that can't deliver mail can be trained to work at the new Alberta Provincial Police, what do we do with the rest? Send them into the wilderness to pick up trash?
Even better! We want to build new pipelines right?
"Here Billy, hold this vial and walk over there and then shake it!!"

I've been thinking the same thing. A few hot topics could be split out of the mega threads so they can be discussed separately without a massive derail into another interesting topic under the same umbrella.
